Ok... might get console on way home today. Need advice.

If not get a PS2 and play some of the absolutely fantastic back catalogue of games to see how you like it and get on with it, then if you like it, upgrade to a PS3/360 and HDTV when you have the cash.

A lot of the times you're fair, other times it's like you have ulterior motives. :(

I missed the 'Monitor' bit, I was mainly picking up on him being a PC Gamer at heart and new to consoles, he might not even like the whole console thing, so my point was to buy the cheapest option with a decent back catalogue of games and see how he liked that and go from there, that's why I mentioned upgrading to a 360/PS3 when he had the cash.

I'd recommend a 360 to anyone mate, I've said this so many times, I loved mine when I had it, only reason I got rid was because I was heavily into PC Gaming (WoW for one) at the time.
 
Wow, I never in my life thought a console and console games could be confusing... sometimes find getting through menus etc, very odd. Suppose its something I will get used to.

Anyway, Should have paid £320 for all the stuff I got tonight, but landed up getting it for £280! Thats the premium console plus free game, extra controller plus free game, and three 2nd hand games from blockbuster.

First, the list of deals one of the guys showed me earlier today was out of date and was £10 less than they normally are... I am not sure how I got charged so little for everything else, but am not complaining with a £40 saving :)

Got Forza2, PGR4, DOA4, Moto GP 06 and something called bomberman...

Taking a bit to get used to the controls, and split screen is just weird when playing against someone.

Fighting games are definitely one place consoles are better than pc.

Oh, and the graphics are better than I thought they would be... anyway, off to play until the early hours now :)
 
Bomberman isn't great, so you might want to trade that in and Moto GP '06 has a dodgy framerate that's not representative of most games this generation.

DoA4 is seriously difficult, but very rewarding with practice and PGR4 and Forza2 are in contrast to each other which is great for you :). If you can get some money I'd recommend The Darkness and Dead Rising as they are awesome, and possibly Test Drive Unlimited.

I really hope you enjoy it as much as most people here have, they are great. Get yourself online on PGR4 and have a riot.
 
Imo, the Burnout games are the best racing games !
You won't get me playing another racer.. apart from Halo 3 (rocket race) ofc. :D

There are some good deals if you search online game shops for Xbox 360 Classics, eg Kameo for £12.99 . Ghost recon £11.99 and Saints Row, Dead Rising £17.99 all good games if you are new to the 360 and will prob be demos of them on live.

Same could be said for you with regards to the PS3. I noticed in another thread someone said they wanted a PS3 and you were like a religious fanatic trying to convert them to 360... I wouldn't suprise me if I found out you go door knocking at weekends but give out copies of the official Xbox magazine instead of watchtower? :p
 
Lord, its like the ATI/Nvidia bickering in the GPU section :)

Anyway, what would people recommend as a good story based game with combat. Downloaded a preview of Soul Calibur(sp?) 4, and thought that looked pretty interesting, so something like that would be good.

Am, so far, enjoying DOA4 and Forza 2. Bomberman is a load of rubbish, and have not spent much time MotoGP 06 or PGR 4 yet.

But man, its so easy to spend hours in front of the damn thing. On the PC, I get a bit restless after about an hour... can just go on and on with the 360 :)

Only thing I don't like is hogging the tele....

edit: can someone tell me, are all xbox games playable on the 360?

I try too stay out of these discussions now, but this really took the biscuit.
How you have the nerve to accuse someone else of console bias and having ulterior motives is just mind boggling.
When you are widely acknowleged as being one of the most bias posters on these boards.
 
Get a 175w 360 and reliability won't be so much of a worry. Early signs are that MS seem to have it licked, touch wood.

At the moment the 360 has the best games and the best online service by far. Whether the games side of things stays that way remains to be seen but I fully expect Xbox Live to stay a couple of steps ahead of the PSN permanently.
 
If it was me, I would go for the PS3, blueray and the upcoming games line up looks awesome (wipeout, GTA). But, I think you probably need to sit back and do some research first as to what you really want..
