Howdy.
Got some awesome news today. Concept 4 is a go'er - just done the licensing deal on it.
NO CLAIMS ON THIS - you all have to go out and buy it - that is how I will be able to afford to run the DB7
Still can't say what it is, but 99% of you will go and get it.

I get a nice bung as an advance - or option, then x% on the sales to retailers. So if it does well Worldwide - then yes possibly a few million quid (hopefully).
ok 99.9% is that more realistic?
Claims are only for concept 1, which sadly looks like it will be passed on, hence it will invalidate claims any - 'cos there won't be any physical product!

This industry is hard hard work, and to get my 1st deal so quickly is a big win. I have had 4 concepts so far, and all have been optioned or reviewed.
To get a deal is something else!
Lots of hard work and little sleep tho'
Also as i am unemployed - this is now my job - I am now a professional toy designer - woot!
It is not my job to market or announce new product (and I can't anyways). Anyway what about the surprise when you find out I designed what you just bought...

Can you tell us what idea 1 was now please? I'd like to know what I could have had a part of.. or something.
Nope it is still under option, so the cash they paid me means I can't let anyone know what it is.
If they pass, it goes to the next in the list. This goes on and on until it is passed by all, then I can say what it is or sit on it for a bit and try again.
A wee bit of an update.
Idea 1 was passed By the big M - no biggie - I am off to Europe tomorrow to see a huge company who have taken out an option on it (paid 3 times as much too).
This technically resets all claims
Went to the UK toy fair and saw a load of companies....
So.
Idea 2 Is go go go, and will be in stores 2012 just in time for the end of the World
Idea 3 Is also being thought about by 4 major companies.
A new Idea 4 developed with the GF is being considered by a big UK player.
There are also a pile of new ideas that I will be presenting end of the month.
So far so good 1 of 4 confirmed is not too bad for a newbie.

Well from concept through manufacture it can take it's time.
The best one idea 2, is being tooled up in April or sometime around then. I think that is for a early jan/Feb release.
So when it hits the press I can say "I made that".

No, it is the best thing I have, and honestly it has expanded my creativity.
When the time comes I will post pics of the stuff I have made.
A toy that's suitable for big kids as well as little ones and it can be made with a laser cutter......hmmmmm..........
The thing is, if I had the ingenuity to figure out what it was I'd be so ****** off that I hadn't thought of it first
The laser is used for prototyping. There is still a lot of model making done by hand. For example the 1st idea was mostly done on the laser, the 2nd was fabbed by hand with a few small jobs on the laser. The other idea is basically a hack of an existing product, which serves as the base for the innovation we have applied to it.
Having the laser simply means that I can get accurate things made up quickly. In some cases I can have parts in my hand in mins, something otherwise would take loads longer if cut by hand. Also I get repeatability, so cut one - cut another etc...
As for the economy, toys always do well
The last option we got was tens of thousands This is a payment so we don't show anyone else, then an advance is paid on a deal, then each quarter you get royalty payments of trade sales. These are normally penny's, but for an example each unit makes you 30p, and they sell 4 million worldwide. All adds up!At the moment, if all goes to plan, I will have possible 3 products retailing, all by 2012 xmas - this time next year Rodders...

There are a few more things in the bag that are now gaining traction.
As for all your claims, I will endeavour to do my best on them, but this all depends on what I get in terms of product.
Other then that you will know that the dude who designed that toy is on these boards. The one that has gone to deal is a biggun!
