Olympic Athletics

Isinbayeva gets bronze... wouldn't surprise me if she calls it quits now. Which would be such a shame. :(
Yea it would be, she hasn't been at her best for a while though.. Still believe she is unbeatable wheb she is.

Isinbayeva is smoking.

She seems to walk the line between being real hot and real scary... It's great :p

James made that look easy... Great run.

Did they just say that the women's pole vault has only been an Olympic event since 2000? That's crazy.

EDIT: Yeah, it is. Wow. It's always seemed such a classic event to me that I guess I assumed it was had been a women's event as long as the men's.

Felix Sanchez and Kierani James were the 2 outstanding performances, for me.
It's such a shame that it is a raining in London - for sure this is slowing the times down. Without rain, this track is super quick, as seen on Day1 (Heptatlon hurdles and as seen last night with the 100m sprints).

The womens 200m race is going to be fantastic. The Richards-Ross vs Felix vs Jetter. All 3 are great runners and lets not forget the newly crowned 100m champ who is also contesting the 200m.

(Thought I'd share the post that I just made on another forum)

Got back from the stadium (again) this evening and despite a rather poor showing from the Brits, it was a great night.

Bolt was idolized by the crowd during his medal ceremony, which was thoroughly correct and Gatlin got a fair amount of booing (I didn't clap, but I did smile at the unsettled undercurrent in the stands).

The pole vault was a bit hit and miss, but the girls were good entertainment and seemed to enjoy the crowd in the North End. It's a minor detail, but I also liked the way that they all observed the national anthems during the medal ceremony's. I've watched athletics for nigh on 25 years, but it's only when you attend in person that you start noticing the little things.

Sadly I think Isinbayeva's time has passed, but on the plus side I think I've fallen in love with another Czech athlete. That's 4 now. Two beach volley-ballers, one heptathlete and a polevaulter. :o

The nicest reaction was to the 400m hurdles winner, Sanchez. There wasn't much reaction at all when he crossed the line, I suppose we were all a deflated by Dai's performance, but when he began welling up during his medal ceremony the crowd gave him a reaction not far off Bolt's. :) I now consider myself a Felix Sanchez fan.

As for the organisation in the Park. Faultless again. The gents toilets do need jet washing more frequently though. :D

110m hurdles going down at the moment.

Shubenkov through in 13.26, the J-Rich through in 13.33 in the second heat. And Lawrence Clarke through as well. Andy Pozzi about to go in the 3rd heat. Robles going in the 4th heat, Merritt in the 5th and Liu Xiang in the 6th.

edit-------------->

Andy Pozzi hamstring goes yet again. :( Bit of a mess of a race really.

I missed this one yesterday. A stumble during the 3000m Steeplechase:

Seems silly for us to be entering injured athletes, that's two this morning who were clearly nowhere near fit to qualify :(
