Olympic Road Cycling

Yes, the Time-Trial where each rider does a course against the clock, rather than racing against each other. It's one of the oldest modern Olympic sports and given Wiggins current form means a very high chance of a Gold.

My prediction - I think Cancellara is going to suffer from that crash, I think Froome is a bit underrated as he was phenomenal on Le Tour, so...
1) Wiggins
2) Froome
3) Martin
4) Phinney (waaaaa)
5) Cancellara

I really can't see Wiggins being beaten unless he has a mechanical issue or something similar

Suprised Froome has such long odds he was awesome in the TDF.

Cancellara is a tough one to call. He's says that he is still in a lot of pain from his crash but his legs are still fine, so he might be ok? A TT bike gives a lot more support to your arms/shoulders than a road bike does as well.

Wiggins and Froome did a lot of work in the road race to try and bring it together for Cav to sprint, so they might still be feeling that. Also remember that they were both high on GC in the tour during the TTs so they had a lot more motivation. Martin + Cancellara were way down (and Martin was injured as well) and had nothing to win other than the stage.

3 - Cancellara
4 - Larsson
5 - Phinney

‘The Tour is such a good boot camp for this. It’s been the best preparation. This is going to be a piece of p*** now compared to that in terms of expectation, pressure, mental stress.
‘It’s just an hour, not three weeks. The Tour was the baseline of worst-case scenario in that sense and we handled that pretty well. So an hour time trial to make history should be a doddle.’

i'm looking forward to the time trial going though my home town (Molesey). I have a ticket for the start point within the palace grounds, where there is also a large screen to view everyone progress!
 
I'm kind of more excited for Froome too. Will be a massive achievement and huge success for GB if he can get Silver or Bronze. Wonder if a country has ever got a 1-2 in the Olympic TT before?

He's not racing any track this year.
The GB team pursuit lineup is:
Gerraint Thomas
Peter Kennaugh
Andy Tennant
Ed Clancy
Steven Burke

(4 riders in the team each race, they'll probably swap one around between qualifying and final to keep somebody fresh)

edit: also, there is no individual pursuit this year (which i think is one of the main reasons that wiggins decided to focus on road racing)
