Realistically, what can Clancy expect then?

Say he wins the 1Km sprint; he'd be on 30 points, Hansen, Viviani and Coquard are all currently on 25 points so they would all have to finish sixth or worse to not finish ahead of him, Kluge would have to finish third or worse not to finish ahead of him.

Or have I worked that out wrong?

Really don't like Clancy's race style. Seems very defensive and always seems to be at the back of the bunch and hence misses all the breaks.

Yeah, i was a little disappointed with that race.
It's fair enough that he missed a few breaks, you cant get into every break and you dont know which one is going to stick. But i would have liked to see him do a bit more on the front when Hansen was out on his own trying to get a lap and make things as hard as possible for him.

It's not over for him yet though. A podium finish and a medal is certainly possibly, but probably not a gold.

Our cyclists can't win them all it seems :p
Laura Trott has a decent shot at a gold medal in the womens omnium, more so than Clancy did in the mens.

Probably best that GB don't do a totally clean sweep - the UCI and Olympic committee might just decide to change the rules again to limit GB success, much like they did this time by blocking competitors from participating in both road and track

You've got a couple of the rules mixed up there.

The main change that effects us is that they have limited it to 1 competitor per country in each event. Last year we had an all GB final in the mens sprint with Hoy vs Kenny (and other events went the same way) so we have been stopped from doing that.

The other rule (which has no real effect on is) is that a track team can be picked from any cyclist entered. There is a limit to the number of riders each country can enter in their track team and from that team they then pick riders to do each event. Germany and France have both entered track riders into other events (Road race and MTB) so that they have a bigger field to chose from for their track team (doesnt mean they get more riders in any event though, just more to chose from).

Fair enough, I was basing my comment on some commentators lamenting rule changes and Wiggins, Cav and Froome not being in any track events following the disappointing road race. I really should know better than to accept what commentators say at face value.
