On The Wagon... then in 'ere!

I'm the same to be honest - once I start drinking on a day it is very hard to stop. If I abstain completely then I'm usually fine, as long as I don't get too bored :p

no booze tonight again :). had a weight watchers microwave meal, an apple a mango and about to have an early night with a book. 3rd day in a row done.

Sounds like you need 12 weeks of Frank Personal Training. Have a look on Facebook.

Thanks, had a look. I'm currently working out 6 times a week with a personal trainer. I signed up for a number of sessions in August just to kick start me.

Luckily for me his previous training partner has recently headed Stateside, so I've managed to maintain momentum by becoming his training partner now. It helps immensely having a partner to bounce off of and to encourage each other when working out, I doubt I'd have been able to cut back so much if it weren't for his support and the exercise in general. With how hard he pushes me, there just wasn't enough room for both every day.

Gone from 26% to 20% body fat so far, so progress is being made :)

Hi Uber

For sure it's tougher when out with friends, especially in a bar. This is when you have to be focused and mentally strong. You've set your target as no drink till Christmas/New Year, tell your friends that. Use the fact they know to encourage you from abstaining. Come on, we all know what happens, the jokes and jibes for sure but nothing as bad as when you give in and take a beer. Drink choices are commonly water and it's quite rightly better than the sugary varity you too dislike. What about making a note of some of the choices Cosimo has posted, listed on page one?

Good idea, will do.

Stress is a killer, combined with alcohol it's a recipe for disaster. Have a chat about whatever is bothering you, you will feel better once you share your concerns with a family member, trusted close friend or a doctor. Don't try and drown it, but certainly do not try and ignore it.

Thanks Jester, you're right. For all the babble I post online with strangers I'm not very good at talking about the important stuff IRL...or anywhere really, anxiety and all that. Surprised I'm even posting on here. I have since spoken to my GP a couple of times, they've been really great. And as a result managed to start a dialogue with some other people I needed to talk to.

Only one glass of wine in the last two weeks, which I'm happy about. It was offered to me, apparently it was expensive and tasted like 'The dogs ********', so I felt it would kind of rude to say no. Although in retrospect, it was a risky move and could have gone either way trying a wine described in that manner :p

Good luck mate and please keep us all updated on your progress.

Oh and whereabouts in Ireland you going to? :)

Dublin hopefully, and up further north. Would be a chance to see some immediately family I've not seen in nearly 2 years now...

I've not updated this for a while. I've been pretty good in general with my cutting down (rather than out). I've gone from drinking almost every night to not drinking most week nights. I am also now at the point where my tolerance is going down, which is good. Planning to have one or two tonight though.

4 weeks ago I looked at my last bottle of 14% Merlot in cupboard and said this is last one - so it was - not touched any since. Was on 5 a week.

I stopped smoking dead in 1972 after smoking for 20 yrs - started at 7 or 8.

I now drink small bottle of flavoured water - That gives me something to drink while eating - I am hoping to keep it up even through Xmas.

I do feel better - heads a lot clearer at night and did start to sleep better but have dropped back to restless nights again.

So out of the original lot who's still on the wagon?
I've drank roughly 5 - 7 beers in the last 2 years. Most of them in the latter part.

Good man, enjoy them. :)

Wife is away today at Boundary Mill and Bury Market so I was left to look after myself - So comes evening meal I thinks - What shall I have ??

Off I go and raid the backup stores and comes out with Beef Pot Noodle - Bare in mind the title - I last had one before I got married.

It was as disgusting now as it was then - So are they all the same or is there good and bad Pot Noodles.

This was a Lidl special from 5 years ago. It still hadn't reached it's use by date - 2019 so God knows what was in it.

Took two glasses of Brandy to get rid of taste. ;)

Somethings not right here.......

Well spotted that man.

I did say wine not Brandy - I do limit myself to 2 shot glasses of Brandy a night - normally after evening meal and that's it.

One thing I have noticed is I am drinking loads more water - The empty flavoured water bottles I fill with tap water and they are placed around the house - Have one here now and have taken a few slugs.

I was on wine- whiskey and brandy

Jim - buy yourself a pretend pint on me.

Not the same but when giving up my diet coke addiction (sigh) I moved over to sparkling water and now drink litres of it per day

Had this stuff through on a marketing e-mail and it looks pretty interesting (and just plain pretty) for the non-drinkers:

a non-alcoholic gin essentially, tempted to get some for when i'm driving, breakfast etc :)
