On The Wagon... then in 'ere!

You don't sound like you've much of a problem if you can limit what you drink with will power alone. Once you get to the stage where you drink everything in the house, that's when the problems start.

Yeah, I'm not at that stage (though if there's beer in the house it's always tempting to drink it in the evening - I tend to find it easier to simply not have much in).

I don't mean to sound like I'm comparing my fairly minor drinking issues to those that have a much harder time of it but it's quite nice to be able to just get what I'm thinking about off my chest as part of my trying to cut down.

But if you cave in, how annoyed will you be with yourself tomorrow!

Roll on tomorrow night I say as the shops will shut for a few days taking away temptation! :D

It will pass, I promise. Just do something to keep busy while it does. My email is in trust if you want chat. I'm rubbish of football but reasonable on most other things!

Good luck.

Cheers :) I don't like football anyway :D

Made it - that's 19 days totally booze free and tonight will be 20. The kids and I are off to friends on Boxing day to stay the night, so that will be a hard temptation, but I'm feeling positive, especially as that will be a full 3 weeks without a drink, and there's no way I'll want to undo that. I'll keep you all posted.

Good luck to all my fellow alcohol free/reducing friends and happy Christmas :)

Have you set yourself any targets/goals or is it just you want to cut down?

Pretty much as I mentioned above. My two main issues are the frequency with which I drink (i.e. most nights rather than the opposite) and the fact that the heavier drinking nights have leaned more towards heavy drinking rather than moderate.

My target is to have at least 4-5 a week or no drinking and 2-3 of moderate (at most).

Ultimate target is to drink even less but I prefer to go for things in stages as I feel it's easier to hit closer goals.

Well it's new years Eve and I hope that that all those who are trying to remain sober end the night that way, and that those of you who are trying to control your drinking manage to remain within your limits.

May 2017 bring you smiles and good memories

Still booze free. That's 28 days now. My last alcoholic drink was Dec 04th - it's a struggle, but it's getting better. Had a few very shaky days and the Christmas week was hard as the kids and I were with friends, but I managed it! Didn't go out New Year as I couldn't be arsed to sort childcare, so that was one less temptation lol.

Here's hoping my fellow abstainers/intake reducers are achieving the results they want :)

Having a shot at a dry January.

So far managed the last 3 nights which obviously includes New Year's Eve. The proof will be when work starts again!

I'm joining. Not really a fan of doing things because everyone else is, but the fact that I am moving house on Friday back to where I have spent the last 20 years trying to get back to (it's bloody expensive) and having had a couple of horrid hangovers over Christmas, it makes sense. Want to savour the move without a fuzzy head for a while, so might even extend it to three months and see how I get on. Going to be tough as some of my close family live in the village and own the best pub, so it's a good test.

January should be easy, the rest I am not sure about yet.

Yup same here. Dry Jan and then also reducing caffeine to one in the morning then making it weaker. Want to also start doing a run each day - just around the block initially.

Well I'm suffering a bit!
I've been absolutely knackered within a few hours of waking the past couple of days, and pretty much brain dead. Not that getting woken up by the bin lorry at 6:55 helped, but then that was only 30mins before my alarm.

Found it hard to be productive today. Even tonight I could barely keep my eyes open at the TV. Power nap then a quick game on the PC and I'm just not in the mood for anything. Don't feel down, nor do I feel like a drink would be the cure. Kinda in limbo.

Hoping for some decent sleep tonight.

Took me a few months of complete exhaustion and poor sleeping to finally settle into a decent sleeping pattern once I'd stopped drinking. I think my body just didn't know what to do. I hadn't really slept tor years, I was physically exhausted but I'd forgotten how to sleep.

I've been going to bed as late as possible to try and get some sleep. I'm trying to relearn the whole going to sleep thing. It's getting better for me, and I'm sure it will for you too - keep at it :)
