On The Wagon... then in 'ere!

Having to cut right down myself due to doctors orders (causing abnormal heart rhythms), hence my post last night in the now drinking thread about drinking Heineken non alcoholic lager. Really enjoyed them actually. We seem to have come a long way since the Kaliber days (bleurgh!)

Well done on cutting right down. Haven't tried the Heineken but prior to stopping completely I was drinking the Budwieser equiv in the black and silver 330ml cans. It was 'ok'.

Off to another meeting tonight. Been 900 days since my last drink. It feels like something of a landmark, though I'm not really sure why. Things are certainly much better and I'm generally more capable, happier, healthier and more stable. I wouldn't go back at all. The problem with me is that I've awfully short and selective memory and the reality of my drinking is not what I remember if I don't get regular reminders of what it was like and why I stopped, hence the meeting tonight.

Well done @CrimsonAvenger, that's good going. Just keep going. Im really pleased to hear you're still on the wagon. I avoid alcohol free beers, to me they're too like the real thing an I think it would just give me a thirst I would feel I could only quench with the real thing, and that way lies disaster for me. Nothing wrong with them though, and if it works for you then go for it. Enjoy away.

All good thanks. Yourself ? Just hitting the end of day 75. Not touched anything even the alcohol free ones. Like you it would be a step in the wrong direction. Now if only I could get my relationship back on track then I would feel that this year is heading in the right direction.

Give it time mate. I was told you can't undo the damage of years of drinking in weeks/months. These things take time, their own time but if its meant to be, it will be. In the meantime focus on staying sober.

Well done.

How's it going @CrimsonAvenger? I used to love this time of year when I was drinking, nothing made me feel like I'd earned the skin full I was drinking more than a long day in the Sun. Plenty of cold cans of Coke, Irn-Bru and Fanta do the same thing, with no hangover, embarrassment, regret etc.

Hope youre coping.

Was thinking about @Brenn47, has anyone seen or heard from him recently?

If he was telling the truth on here (which I have my doubts about) then I fear the worst for him :(

Unfortunately I suspect he was telling the truth. He behaved the same way I've heard lots of others describe themselves behaving beofre they got sober. I can see why you'd question it though. It's hard for 'normal' people to understand the level of self delusion active alcoholism requires.

I hope he's ok, and is finally sober.

Good thanks phonemonkey. Just hit the 100 day mark yesterday. Yeah I see plenty of people on my walk to the station or out and about lunchtime sat outside with their drinks as I work in the city. Not a good week at work particularly and my go to would have been to get hammered. Ate a lot of ice cream instead :)

100 days is awesome. Keep it up.

Not a drop for me since i went mad at the start of feb, never even had one on my two week holiday.

Put and e-bike together recently and will be spending my spare time riding instead of consuming as much booze as possible, keep it up everybody!.

Decided to jump on the wagon as I'm trying to save money for a mortgage (Been spending over £10 a day in the week after work then about £100 every saturday on a night out) also put a lot of weight on through drinking and eating crap so going on a diet aswel. Really struggling today nothing seems to quenching my thirst at all not much of a pop drinker and sick to the back teeth of juice.

16 months and two weeks without a single drop here. Have a new found love of decent Ginger Beer and Dandelion & Burdock.

Well done. That's no small achievement. Feeling better for it?

Nice one, welcome to the club. I get what you mean about the pop. It's hard to find something 'grown up' to drink that doesn't have alcohol in it. There's some cracking mocktail recipes in this thread, take a look. You might find your new tipple.

Marks and Spencer Sparking apple juice in the glass bottle with a cork. They do lots of flavours very very nice and expensive :(

Well done those who've joined the wagon and to those who are well on their way already. Might be tougher for some souls right now with the football overload on our TV screens. I used to spend most of it ****** as a fart. Perhaps it help me deal with the never ending disappointment that is England lol.

Well less disappointment and England in the semi finals. I'm a couple of days off the 5 months mark. How's everyone else doing with heat ?
