Yeah it's a decent shout. I was thinking Scrubs, similar concept. Loads of episodes, easy to watch in the background etc and enough of a mix of comedy/drama etc for it to stay fresh (ish).
EDIT - Where you getting over 1000 episodes? It's 10 series of 24 episodes isn't it? = 240 ish

A lot of people who love Anime say it is their favourite, so it must be quite good......I tried but thought it was merely okay...I don't know how rewatchable it is though but with over 1000 episodes I figure at least it has the running time.
Off the cuff I would pick Friends though. If it is another Sitcom then perhaps Big Bang Theory a close 2nd.
I don't think I can pick a serious show, even if it's amazing.
Soap operas, good shout. I stopped Neighbours well before 2004, But I'm fairly sure I watched it for about 12-15 years, Home and Away for about 10 years. Eastenders, probably watched for about 20 years, probably the last one I stopped in about 2011.

20 years ago, I would have picked Friends. It has a bit of everything and is very re-watchable.
Big Bang Theory I stopped at around season 9. If the show had ended around 6 or 7, it would possibly give the Office a serious run for it's money.

Has to be something like Friends or the Simpsons. Something that covers all kinds of emotions and has a substantial amount of it.

Good shout to those who mentioned soaps (Neighbours) as they go on forever, or at worst, several decades.
Mine would be South Park. They've done a few hundred episodes over 25+ years and there are some episodes I have watched 10+ times like Make Love not Warcraft, Deep Learning, The F Word, Mystery of the Urinal part Deuce, Sexual Harassment Panda, and especially... Terrance & Phillip "Not Without My Anus"!
