His amp has a problem, how is a pre amp going to help ?Is going AV pre-power a possibility? You could get a older AV amp with preouts then buy a power amplifier

I'm well out of touch with latest amps m8,I've got a £1300 amp from 15 years ago and that's a Denon and still amazes me with the sound.Yeah the 876 won't turn back on...it comes on for a few seconds and then goes off...
Any ideas what the Denon AVR x4400 is like ?
Not everyone wants/needs a power amp when ever hey need a new amp.1) throw onkyo away
2) buy a new avr / AV pre-amp /poweramp

Could you get it repaired ?Yeah , I just need something as good if not better than the Onkyo for around 500-800
Flashing led is protect mode. Could be a number of reasons but if you've pulled all your cables and it's still doing it then I would assume something inside has popped. See if you can get it repaired would be my first port of call.
Amplification has gone backwards and prices have gone up. to buy an av amp with better amplification than the 876 is going to cost you at least a grand plus and probably more. However, the sheer amount of features they are packing in these days might well make up for that. Guess it depends if you really need that sort of sonic ability - I find I dont, never have time for it these days.
Maybe see if you can arrange some home demos ofnkit at various price points?

Woke up this morning and my 876 wont power on on....
The front Led is flashing...when I power on it comes on fir a few seconds then goes off...
I have read the manual and disconnected everything..I'm now waiting an hour until powering it on again....
Fingers crossed it comes back on....![]()
Unless there's a fairly major short across one of the speaker terminals then this sounds like an issue with the power getting to the relay that switches on the main power transformer. Could be a dead transistor or a degraded circuit board track. Either way, it's very unlikely to fix itself. Electrical faults rarely do.
If you're handy with a soldering iron and don't mind the work involved, then doing a DIY repair is possible. If the amp really is dead then you've little to lose at this stage. Be warned though, this isn't for the faint hearted.
Changing for a new/newer amp is the other option. Whilst newer amps have gained a lot of features since your 876 was launched, and those features have filtered down to lower priced models too, what hasn't changed is the cost of power.
Even if it costs you £300 to fix it's still a small saving plus you know what the amp is like so its worth keeping.I feel its my duty to at least try and give the 876 another chance..Its been my hub of my cinema since it was built and its never missed a beat.
Wow its nearly been a decade in December when I started building it!
