operation: upside down/ reverse case (kind of)

ooops sorry!
should add that the picture is taken at an angle! looks a bit jaggy on the pic, much straighter in real life..... honest!

started some spraying today, well first coat anyway!
still drying which is why the picture looks "patchy", dont know why but the bottom panel in the picture looks terrible! must be artifacts from the camera?

its fine in reality and needs two more coats, with light sanding in between then i can practice with some lacquer on the base. that will be a sphincter twitcher because if that aint right, its start all over again!

last picture for a while, going newquay this week (nice weather, eh?).
been spraying the lacquer and for first attempt, its not bad. it doesn't really matter too much for the inside but it does get me worrying about the end result for the outside!

i'm surprised by the effect of the paint, it looks a bit hardened/industrial, if you know what i mean?
i don't mind that , like i said, for the inside. still a long way to go yet!

What you need to do is sand between coats with high grit wet and dry to get a good finish, and do lots of thin coats. The paint should have a pretty smooth, reflective finish before the clear coat goes on ;)

cheers Raikiri, glad your around to hand out the tips! i was using 800, was gonna use 1200 for the outer? i thought it had to be a mat finish before the lacquer, oh well, i guess this is why its best to practice first! i think i may have been lucky using a rough grit, i might not have liked the inside too glossy!
when i get back i need to rivet the frame back together so i can size up the front.

I would use 1200 or 1600, keeping it wet as you sand and making sure the paint is completely dry before doing it... :o

So on the last colour coat wet sand with 1200/1500 grit so that the finish is mat and then spray on some light coats of laquer?

thats exactly what i thought. unless anyone has a better way?

there is nothing worse than trying to find the enthusiasm to continue something that feels like its taking forever.... still, heres an update!

fixed the top and front to the case so i can smooth off the edges, you would think a case is perfectly straight but no, its not.

marked out where the curve is going to go, i think this bit is gonna be tricky!

only other problem now is to keep the side edges straight or try and curve them into the front and top? its probably best to see what the first part looks like first.

someone tell me theres an easier way to do this sanding........
got the top to front curve done, might give it a bit more to make it perfectly round but cant be arsed at this point in time!
and then ive still got the edges to do :(

yeah, managed to get an electric sanding job, certainly makes it a bit easier, been sanding, filling, sanding..etc
got the curve the way i want it now and might have found a bulgin button, finally!!
next up is the slot for the drive, then i can prime and spray - woohoo!
oh yeah and the best thing was the solution for the eject button, i didnt want one and probably wouldnt be able to with the way im doing it. anyhooo, found a vista eject gadget so all i have to do is click the big symbol and hey presto!

Or right click on the drive you want to open in My Computre and it opens, push to close or vice versa as to open!

Or a small holes to use a papper clip in

wow, now thats gonna be nice. tomorrow if i aint busy am gonna try and make a wooden case.. i probably get fed up and throw it away tho

@ Drazic, i need to make this thing user friendly, my wife aint too good with technology and if she needs to use a paper clip to open the drive then i might come home one day to find the house on fire!

quick update then with, wait for it...... a picture!
