Opinions on HP ProLiant ML115 G5

Is that offer still running - the free iLO 100?

Where do you work Origin?

I work for Softcat (within the Network Security team so not directly involved with HP but we sell a shedload of it apparently).

Just thought I'd post my experiences with the ML115 and Windows Home Server (WHS).

Got the quad core 2.1 Opteron processor
swapped the 512mb for 2 x 2GB of Crucial stuff
added 2 x 500GB spinpoint F1's
and of course WHS

After installing the additional hardware I set to installing WHS. Now this isn't a support OS for the box but is built on Windows server 2003 so should have been no problems.

Running through the WHS installation it insists on formatting all 3 drives which takes about an hour and then during the installation it dies with a BSOD in nvstor.sys

A bit of googling showed that people get an issue with the nvidia chipset drivers on 32bit OS's but I couldn't find a solution so a bit more trawling.

I found an HP notice that said that there is some incompatibility between certain shipped drives and Windows Server 2003. They advise using the Easy Setup CD which comes with the server but this doesn't like WHS media so that was a no go!

I therefore pulled the 250GB and 1 of the 500GB and proceeded without issue to install WHS on a single 500GB drive. This was no issue whatsoever thankfully!

Once up and running I then dropped in the 2 other drives again and no issues to report!

Great box but just looking add a 5.25" card reader to fit in above the DVD writer

Hi newbie here. I have been watching one particular site which was listing these (ML115 Opteron 1352) at £159.55 inc. VAT and they had several hundred in stock earlier in the week. Unfortunately, just about an hour after
doh missed the boat it seems, was gonna pick one up for 160 odd, checked yesterday and they are back at HP retail rates, dang
was posted, the page changed and Availability: Sorry, this product is not available to order.
I notice that no one has posted direct links to any of the sellers, so I'm presuming that is against accepted behaviour, but would anyone be willing to PM me a link, if any of the sellers have dropped the price or have stock available? I'm really looking for sellers who some of you have purchased from. I'd be willing to let anyone know, by PM, where I was looking. I've previously purchased a ML115 from them, so I feel I could recommend them.

it has an internal USB connection just above the SATA connections, this is fairly near the base of the motherboard with good reach to the base of the case if necessary

Where is the best place to get one of these guys?

I am looking for a cheap machine to have a play with ESX/i and maybe some Hyper-V. Looking for a new job at the moment so want to be able to say I have at least some experience!

Thanks

severely doubt we are allowed to link, suffice to say a good google will turn up something, especially if you search by HP product codes to find the exact model you want
