To start with, about £450 for the mobo, £4700 for the CPU's, over £800 for the RAM and £650 for the case.
Could this be used as a 'normal' system ?, or just for server use ?

and biffa has 3 of these.... well 2 are intel which are even faster than the amd's
i wish i could do stuff like this
you need to get me some sponsors =(
ooou, just noticed who you fold for the family is going to have a bit of a boost with this machine
That thing is a MONSTER!!! I'm seriously impressed, I can't wait until you get it mounted in your case, plumbing it up is certaily going to be 'interesting'. Keep up the superb work
**** me sideways..... what an epic mobo!!!
Supermicro for the win.
Folding at team 10 has clearly come a long way since my graphics cards died and I dropped out of the race.
Absolutely awesome! Cannot wait to see this running!
i was going to ask the same question about waterblocks... i have the xspc waterblock for my 780 gpu...it seems so heavy how does the pci slot take so much weight
I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I ....I'm speechless :O

CANNOT WAIT TO SEE THIS. Can you do a HD video when its done giving us a tour of it best you can and so we can see/hear the beast in addition to photos ?
Subbed....mental build lol
That is some motherboard!
Really love the ram heatsinks, id say look better without the water block on top! The big black solid lumps. Great stuff. Wish I still had time and funds to do these kind of projects.
This is CRAZY! Going to look epic once finished though.
Out of curiosity do you know how much the build would cost if you were buying the bits yourself?

I'll take 10 please. Guessed it was going to be sonething like that, by the time all the blocks, rads, fittings etc got to be close to 10k

My intels are nekkid (caseless), air cooled and the cpu's second hand, nothing like as beautiful as Hukkels work.
holy crap! thats some radiator mounting you got there!
Awesome build mate, glad there are people like you in the world that go mental with these kinds of things
Couple of things Hukkel
1. Have you checked the CPU's mobo and ram all work ok? If not I'd get SM to send you 4 cheap air coolers of theirs so you can at least boot it up and make sure its all fine before you with the watercooling.
2. Do you have a diagram of how the metal framework works with the Supermicro case? Does it go around the outside of the case?
Epic.
Proving once and for all, you can't have too many water blocks
On a side note before I clicked on this thread I thought I had a reasonable knowledge of computer hardware. Turns out I know sod all
If hes going to be folding they are going to be pushing some heavy heat both from the cpu sockets and VRM's so I wouldn't want anything plastic back there.
Thread updates did not disappoint.
What a beast...
Impressive
Would a piece of sturdy Perspex or plastic under the Mobo help to distribute the weight a bit better,or at least try to stop the board flexing under the weight of the blocks and coolant?
These mobos are pretty hefty also as it will be mounted vertically it shouldn't cause a problem. If hes going to be folding they are going to be pushing some heavy heat both from the cpu sockets and VRM's so I wouldn't want anything plastic back there.
Fair point Biffa.
1. No I haven't because I didn't have heatsinks. Perhaps I should try and run it with 1 rad and provisional tubing just to check before it is all installed and impossible to take out again.
2. No I haven't. Why do you ask? You think there is like an earthing or current issue? I know the top and behind mobo tray part are one single piece that has rivets in it so I didn't want to get it out.
