Opteron Prime - Supermicro 4P folding mayham

Sweet%20Jesus_.gif

Epic build.

Although this will be running Linux, would it be possible to set up a virtual machine within this running Windows 7 or something to be able to utilise the GPUs for folding as well as the processors?

I have never heard of it.
Now AMD have just released the R290X I expect them to create good Linux drivers this time. Especially with the Steambox coming and running on a Linux based OS.

I am not sure wether this system will actually pack GPUs. I am going to try and see what happens if I will fold on one high end one. The big adv units are known to be very sensitive to only a few monites longer that it takes to finish one WU. And with one or two cores being busy feeding the GPU the gains might be lower than the cost. But there is only one way or finding out :)

that looks F..... ACE :D

thats some plumbing right there ;)

keep it up man, doing a superb job!

Thanks Jonny!

Tube porn.

Check out what landed on my doorstep friday out of sunny Portugal :)
Ricardo made me so very large grills for this case. And do they look awesome.
I haven't even taken the plastic protective layer from the green grill yet.
Then it will be even more stunning green.
It is not UV reactive plexi sadly. But very bright green still.
And of course dustfilters all around to keep my fans and radiators from clogging with dust.

He also created an illuminated midplate with a custom top cover.
As you can see in the window picture the letters are letting light through.
Going to look very nice.

And added the needed LED strips to the bundle.
I love them because they don't come with molex connectors but fan connectors.
So easy to just plug into a splitter or mobo or fancontroller.

I will let the photos do the talking.

I want to thank Ricardo yet again for this sponsorship.
The parts are absolutely amazing. Sheer perfection.
Both design wise and finish of the parts.
I am deeply honoured you partner up with me for projects.

I am off now. Going to have fun fitting these things to the case :dremel:

hahaha :D

wow this is looking great :)

Thank you Wrighty!

the cpu loop has and in/out but the memory cooling loop is all connected together with no outlet or inlet to go any were ?

Yeah I meantioned that in the given post. I was trying out different routings and changed my mind at the end. The left two ports that are not connected with the mini tube will be the in- and outlet.

-------------------------------------------

And update time.
I fitted the grills to the arch.
Made two 10 cm fancable extensions for the bottom fans.
Fitted the fans in it.
Fitted the small PCB fan splitter.
Shortened the UV led strip power cables.
Fitted the LED strips and connected them.

Only need to fit a window and the arch is done HOORAY!

Here are some pictures.
I wanted to also show it of while working but I can't find my spare powercable FTL

Enjoy the photos!

LOL!

looking good man!, this thing looks like its gunna power the sun :D

All green energy man, no trees died for this one xD

Edit.

That's no PC water cooling shroud... That's a fireplace with fans and UV light mounted in it!!!

Exactly! *brofists NC*

--------------------------------------------------------

I haven't had TOO much time for this build. I was waiting for some parts and had some other stuff to do. But I certainly did NOT abandon it. I made the wiring to the top today and tested it.
I have been watching it for like 10 minutes.... just watching....

Lets watch together some more....

I think earlier 3rd week of November it had to be ready for a trip over the pond!

Fantastic work Hukkel, sure hope you get everything in time for the deadline! :)

I love how you found all the Supermicro modular server case things so amazing - working with servers you just become accustomed to it and forget that others don't get to experience it! :o

Looking good! Any estimate on completion date?

I hope soon :D
But I have had a LOT of issues with parts coming in weeks later than they were supposed to. I am currently also waiting for a big bag of fillports.

This sounds epic, can't wait to see some more :)

Thank you CR!

It's so green my green is greening out beyond Green:cool:

When in doubt.....MOAR GREEN!!!!

Thank you for your friendly comments Roady :)

Yes it was supposed to be read right about NOW. But that isn't going to happen. They had already cancelled this project for the SC'13 show sadly. We're going to try and get it working for the next show.

------------------------------------------------------------

Finally had some real time on my hands for this.
Did a good chunck of work friday and saturday and this morning.
And the weekend isn't over yet =)

First some pictures of a box of stuff I ordered with some fittings, tubing, loads of fillports and such.
They didn't have full stock so I am awaiting 11 more fillports!

Now onwards to the work being done. Because I received some fillports to work with I wanted to go ahead and work on the roof.
All 4 coolant channels will go over the top through the "attick" :D

What is this? A game of chess?

Had to cut away 3 layers of metal (right through the PSU box) to get a path where to put the hosing through from the top compartment to the bottom compartment (out of sight).

Ah so that is what the crosses were for. 20mm holes for the fillports.

All 4 holes on each side. Including holes in the plexi panel on the "ceiling" of the case.

Time to get some paint on the top panel to give the inside a more clean loop that the stock one with all the holes and cutouts.

I have tried to get a pattern on there, but I might cancel that if the end result is really MEH.

More chess w00000000000t!!!!

No wait more holes.....
This time in the TOP panel of the case. All of which won't be visible when the arch is on.
The idea is to get 4 straight plexi tubing routes over the top under the arch.
I did 2 here so you can get an idea. Only the tubing will be visible and the UV LED strips will hopefully make the UV reactive coolant look great.
