It's upgrade time and I'm seriously considering an Orange M600 to replace my K750i but I have a couple of questions.

How straightforward is it to use as an ordinary phone? Can it be put into phone mode quickly and easily and how simple is it to just dial a number and make a call.

How good is the audio? My 750i has the absolute best audio I've heard in a mobile phone, but my previous phone, the T610 was terrible. I want good quality, loud audio in my lug.

Can I use MP3s as ring tones?

I guess that's it as a start.

Ta.

I had the JAM or M500 and my bro has the JAMin aka M600. I came to it from the Moto V3 and it miles better (in terms of sound phone use, yes I know you all think that the V3 is the worst phone in the world for every thing!), no problems with sound at all, loud and clear. Is it a good phone, phone, yes very good. One button on the front will either take you too the contacts list or the last called numbers then you use the up and down button to find what you are looking for. The only thing its not so great for imo is for quick one line txts, but i'm not a 12 y.o. girl so its wasnt that much of a problem for me.

I have the MDA Compact II which is basically the same thing (to a certain extent) and I will say this about it:

Call quality is poor at best. I moved from a Nokia 6670 and the call quality was noticably worse. Having said that, it isnt unusably poor, its just not as good as other handsets.

For me, getting on and out of the phone mode is as simple as either pressing the dial key or hitting the big button on the today screen. Either way, its fast. Its not as fast as being able to pick up the handset and dial a number but its only one extra step.

Texting is fine, you have a choice of the keyboard or a T9 phone pad.

Everything else it does makes up for it being an average "phone". Being able to play anything you want on it is cool, installing tomtom etc is a further bonus.

Fantastic unit in all :) Im really happy with mine :)

Well each to there own, I found mine much better than average, and I've had a lot of phones. Maybe its the t-mobile signal?

I have the Dopod 818 Pro, which is a rebadged HTC Prophet same as the M600.
I think its a great device and it means now that I carry one device around, instead of two (Phone/PDA).
When you say audio quality, I am not sure if you are talking about call quality or music quality, but I would have to say it is fine on both counts. I use mine as an MP3/Audio book player and it performs well. It also supports Bluetooth v2, so you can use BT Stereo Headphones with it, although I haven't tried this yet.
You can use MP3 ringtones, but they must be located in the storage memory of the phone, rather than the Storage Card.

Also, it is worth mentioning that, unlike some PDA/Phones, it is easy to use one handed. This includes making phone calls as you can easily navigate using the buttons to your contacts list or call history to select the recipient.

I'm ut they hopefully getting mine tomorrow, tried to get an SPV M5000 but they wouldn't waive the upgrade fee (£149) So much for looking after loyal customers eh? Anyway looking forward to the M600.

Are there any competitive deals on Orange in terms of tariffs for the M600 at the moment?

I have been on everyday 50 for about 5 years now, don't use it as much as I used to and want to switch to a tariff like the T-Flex £26.25 (900 Xnet mins + 200 texts)..but also want a M600. Willing to spend up to £30/month on orange. What can I expect from retentions or is it just worth getting a new plan with them, of which I can see nothing remotely competitive with any other mobile company :(

Just spoke to retentions...

option 1. Upgrade to M600 for £199.99

option 2. Change tariff to £35/month with 900 Xnet calls and 200 texts and then need to upgrade to M600 for another £159.99.

option 3. Get a new M600 on a new contract - but the tariffs are truely pants, even £30/m or £35/m buys you nothing compared to the other mobile comps!

Hmm, what to do.

Thats what I have been looking at with places like e2save free phone £30 p/m. Might just get that, but would like to get better deal on the mins/txts tbh.

Well I have got it - well signed the contract, didn't have time to hang around for the phone so will be picking it up within the hour.

I got the Panther 45 plan (600 mins + 100 text) @ £38.25/month (ahhh love the 15% Doctors discount from orange).

Thinking of dropping into a shop and getting them to price match me a 2gb SD stick!
