Origin Access Comes to PC

Hard sell for a total of 15 games.

Great idea, but ea's library on the pc is rather lacking. If however they decided to bring back the sports and action games to the pc, the nhl, madden's, PGA, skate, ssx type games, id be all in.

NHL alone would swing it for me. The reason they stopped bothering was because of piracy, if they tied it to the digital service download only with a live account, problem solved, instant sell, same with the golf.

So much this, Madden and Skate are games I used to play for hours, same as PGA.

I'd be more open to it if they did this.

Make it a single service, 20 odd pound a year and have it cover Xbox One and PC and then I'll be interested.

Built a PC for my nephew at Christmas and loaded on games for him. Would have snapped up the offer had it been available at the time. Even in the Origin sale it cost 80 quid to get him enough games to last till his birthday the week after...

Thinking of the bigger picture.

How long before E.A become a subscription only distributor?

As in, no single one off purchases.

You pay a sub, get access to everything and they monetise the **** out of their games even more?

Not surprising, software in general realised the Saas model was the way forward a long time ago.

It will massively reduce piracy.

If Steam did it and charged £15 a month, I would be all over it.

I am not sure steam could. With origin the subscription money is going to the publishers as EA publish all their games through Origin. Steam is a multi publisher\developer platform. Unless they gave a percentage to each publisher\Developer based on time played per game.

they are going to include third party games

FAQ
Will The Vault include third party games?
Yes! You’ll be able to play select games from other publishers with your Origin Access membership – and we plan on adding more over time, so your Origin Access library will keep on growing. Check out the full list of Vault games.

Does this sort of thing work? Like with films i understand it, they only last 2 hours then ya dont wanna watch them again for a few years so if watching films is your hobby then your gonna need a good supply of them, but does anyone switch games that often?

I guess some people must or they wouldnt come up with this sorta thing.

I don't see it as any different to Netflix in truth. Each get a payout of x amount etc and Steam would take their part.
