Origin access PREMIUM (soon)

I remember many years ago when subscription services were being touted as the future and most balked at the idea of renting and not owning, but now it seems everyone is clambering to rent everything over buying! I am guilty of this being a Spotify, Netflix, Prime, EA Access, PSN+, XBox Live and most recently Gamepass subscriber! I don't know how but they kind of caught me off guard and keep mounting up draining my bank account :( However I'm starting to feel overwhelmed by it all and thinking of cutting back as I'm fed up of this rental model.

Im not that keen on endless subscriptions either but with the kids also getting into gaming it makes a bit more sense. Forgot daughter also plays the sims from origin! Im not shelling out for multiple accounts/games.

We just have to argue about who gets to play what and when. :p

Sounds like time for another machine! A 2500k, 8GB and a 970 would still play most things including the sims without issue. My son has my old 2500k system with a 980 and at 1080p it still blitzes most stuff.

Ah no, they have their own machines but we cant all play the same origin account, mostly fine though as I play when they are in bed. :P

I paid for 2 months Origin Premier.

Played both the new Madden and FIFA to completion in the campaign.

Did I get my moneys worth, YES.

Have I cancelled, YES.

Will I be back same time next year, YES :D

They are pricing their games soo stupid now, it makes you wonder if they are pushing consumers towards this model intentionally.

You are getting a new generation of Netflix/Spotify gamers whom to them, the subscription model makes sense.

Us "PAY MY £20, WHERE IS MY GAME" dinosaurs just do not "get it" :D

As much as I am in the camp of 'buy don't rent' when it comes to PC games it isn't that straight forward.

Most AAA games these days have a finite life due to online elements which range from always required to required for most of the game, as soon as they are shut down the same is unplayable. Many multi player games also die as soon as the next edition comes out, this is particularly prevalent with games like Fifa. Sure there is a few players playing the old titles still but they are few and far between. Many people will not replay a single player campaign after its been completed.

The sorts of games that EA pump out like the sports titles and BF tie into the annual subscription model really nicely if you are due to get 2 games or more a year from EA. I couldn't see myself replaying something like Mass Effect so subbing for a month to 'blitz' it is also a viable option.

Overall it's a good service and worth the money if you play a lot of EA games IMO, lots of people will get value from it. The option to purchase is still there either way.

I've just decided to give it a go, considering I've been paying the same amount for XBLIVE and Game Pass I've just cancelled them as do not use the Xbox One. Only used it for Forza 4 on the PC but it's a bit meh to be honest, so got BF5 & Sim City. I'm not too critical towards EA and I really feel it's potentially good value as there are tons of games to play on it.

Think I'm going to sign up to give Battlefield V a try, few other titles on there I would like to play as well.
I signed up for a year last month. Already blown through battlefront 2 campaign, mass effect Andromeda is on the go at the moment and I have early access to BFV for the past few days. With Anthem next year I reckon I’ve got my money’s worth already.
