Shame it's only for ones bought on Origin and doesn't cover adding a key from elsewhere. I have about 15 games on there and only one was bought in their store.

I don't see how they can refund you for something that wasn't bought from them.

Yeah i wasn't really clear in what i meant. I meant that it's a bit useless when most of us probably don't buy from Origin anyway. It's way too expensive compared to just about every other place or method.

+1 I think Steam has to either:

1. Copy what Origin have done, or beat it.

As People said if they copied it it would be for Valve only games, not many of those around these days! A more realistic option would be to implement the system of refunds but leave it to developers to decide on the refund time period they want to allow if any.

2. Offer demos for every single game they add from now on and prompt users to perhaps try the demo before purchasing.

Steam is a digital distribution platform, if they start demanding every game comes with a demo many developers will switch distribution systems to avoid the cost and time of creating a demo. Again it's down to the developer not the publisher (steam) to decide this.

Hat's off to EA. I am sure it will fit in with their vision of providing games which have repeated DLC releases so people can't really finish the game in a day even if they wanted to. A good idea and one that Steam won't be able to follow them on.

Ultimately this is just to gather some publicity. I have never wanted a refund from a PC game. Before I buy it, I ensure I have read all the reviews I can find (both user and professional reviews) and then watch some game play footage.

It is up to the consumer to perform research on the product they intend to buy.

If there are technical problems with a game, then that is something different (and seeing as most games come with a day 1 patch anyway).

Actually no, let's hope Steam doesn't implement this. It could royally screw over developers. Let's take To The Moon for example; One of the best indie games I have played, but it only took 3 hours to complete.

This means I could then ask for a refund, meaning I have effectively played the game for free. Is this not the same concept as piracy? (albeit within a limited time frame)

This would be true for most single player games that have a linear story line that can be completed in under 24 hours (which is most games nowadays).

Possible plan:

Add steam achievement for completing game - refund not available if achievement activated?

EA customer service hits a home run once again if only steam were this innovative.

I wonder what happens with games that take last than 24hours to complete trololol

"Once again"?? What other great things have they done and how are they more innovative? They've been playing catch up since they launched origin.

That's a fantastic initiative, and serious kudos to EA for taking it up. Still need to read the "small print", so to speak -- but on the face of it it's a major step forward for customer service within the digital distribution landscape.

This might well backfire on them, lots of wriggle room and not clear exactly what will and what will not be part of it in relation to where you buy the games which must then be registered on origin etc.
