**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

From what I can tell the system is very slow to promote and relegate.

After losing a ton of games I am still in platinum but should probably be in silver somewhere.

It is incredibly slow to relegate, particularly for inactive players. I haven't played a 1v1 ladder match in absolutely months yet I'm still in platinum.

ok so I basically build a gateway and cybernetics core in front of the ramp get an zealot and sentry out then start on the Stalkers? unless he is getting gas then I can build my usual way?

I got put in silver and lost the first three games I played :(
Hoping thats just a strategy issue though and that I'll stay there!

The game tries to balance your opponents to get you to a 50/50 win ratio, so don't worry if you're getting enemies that are a lot better, eventually it'll give you opponents that you'll have an even chance against. With you going straight into silver there's probably certain elements that you havent had chance to pick up on along the way, so even if you do go down to bronze just see it as a good chance to iron everything out, the promotion will come when you keep pushing the win ratio above 50/50.

Well if you scout early enough, it might even be worth getting a forge and cannons at the ramp with sentries to forcefield... Don't build too much close to the edge so that the marines can't shoot from below. You will also have to stop probe production for the best chance at defense - don't worry though as even if you stop at 15 probes, unless if he kills your probe line, you will still have a far better economy than him.

This particular kind of marine SCV push is very difficult to deal with and can sometimes beat people all the way up to Masters League.

I wouldnt wall off against terran or protoss. Zerg, yes. Reason is that marines and marauders can shoot everything very easily from below, so all you end up doing is making your cyber core more vulnerable to a scan+attack, when you need stalkers and sentries. Scouting, and making sure you're constantly building units is the way to hold off that sort of BS tactic. Get the sentries out and hold the ramp until you have enough units to crush the all-in.

Now that the build time on the sentry's been cut, that should be a bit easier to pull off nowadays. :)

Also don't build too many gateways too early. A common mistake is to build lots of gateways, but then not have any money to build anything out of them, so you end up missing a whole lot of production time. In general, only build them when you have the money, and are still able to constantly produce out of your existing unit producing structures (unless you're doing some sort of warp gate all-in, then it's a bit different).

Dunno why, but i did 1v1s for a long time even in beta and got into high plat. I decided to do Random 4v4s and really enjoying them more than the 1v1. Frustrating sometimes though

Oh god, just won my first league game and it feels great XD

I played pretty awfully though, being completely unprepared for a reaper attack. Then unprepared for cloaked banshees. But somehow managed to win it with mass stalkers, since he seemed to put everything into a banshee/viking army, and I just overwhealmed him with more stalkers :x

I wasn't getting enough minerals in most of the game, buy had tons of gas. In hindsight I probably should have transfered from gas to minerals. And build more units right at the start to counter his rush.

You need better creap spead then, speedlings are more than enough to stop blink stalkers.

It's not quite that easy on the map it was on, loooads of cliffs and a massive gap behind your minerals. Forget what its called, but one of the new ones. But yueah, Speedlings get ripped by blink stalker, on or off creep imo, soo many micro capabilities on maps like that
