**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Well after seeing the prices these go for on auction I decided to sell mine, wish me luck! :)

(mine is from a Blizzcon card not the keys sent out via email)

Hopefully can pay nicely towards the SSD I just got...

Good luck, not that you'll need it. Did you put the listing on .com or just uk? Both the ones on uk seem to be above £100 lol. I hope for the sake of the buyer the beta lasts more than the few months some people have predicted! ;)

Although the listings are from Antrim and Notttingham so maybe you're not using ebay?

I am it just hasn't shown up yet, and yep it's on .co.uk I only want to sell within the UK. the only problem with mine is I scratched the code off when I put in the Polar Bear Mount in WoW but I haven't actually used the beta key!

I don't think anyone should expect amazing graphics from Blizzard and their new starcraft game, stylized yes, amazing, no.

Look at their other games, WoW, everyone complained about the graphics but it's evident by the number of subscribers that graphics count for nothing. Same with Diablo 2, terrible graphics but extremely popular.

I wish I'd got my key but I'll just have to wait longer. Will the beta eventually come out for everyone? Or is it more of a public 'closed' beta with limited keys right until launch day??

I don't think there's any set plans for numbers of invites or beta phases, at least according to the FAQ, it's the standard; if we need more testers we'll send out more invites, type of deal. The odd person has mentioned there'll be another wave of invites in a week or two, but it's anyone's guess at the moment I think.

Eulogy's £199 buy it now price doesn't look too ridiculous now the first one on UK ebay went for £155 in the end.

I'd love to have beta spot but I'm not sure I could turn down £200 if I was offered it, in cash, to my face anyway, I still wouldn't put it on ebay though :)

I set it at £200 because someone may want it badly enough to pay it, I anticipate I would get around 75% of that price under current market conditions (supply/demand) but the way I used to do auctions in WoW was to offer a premium price for the luxury of receiving the item earlier (i.e buy it now).

We'll see what I get in the end, I'll let you guys know anyway :)

You may not get so much for it because you're offering a Blizzcon key rather than an opt-in key. The opt-in keys allow you to assign them to a bnet account and begin playing straight away, whereas the Blizzcon keys just reserve you a spot in the next wave - anybody who buys your key is going to have to wait potentially weeks for the next invite wave before they can play, whereas if they buy an opt-in key they're playing as soon as they can download the client.

It follows that Blizzcon keys are selling for less than opt-in keys because of this, though you might get lucky and get a bidder who doesn't know the difference.

Hi, I'm not out to rip people off or mislead them, so I sold it to a fellow ocuker for £60. Which may prove to be a bargain if they get into the beta in less than 2 weeks, probably less so if it's longer though.

I don't play RTS games anyway, and he was a big fan of Starcraft so it's a win-win as far as I'm concerned, and I got some monies so i'm happy :)

Have fun with the game Iain!

Anyone here actually taking part in the beta? What are your impressions?

I have it and to be honest loosing every ****** match because I'm not a speed demon is demoralising me to the point of not playing, and I have play all the ranked matches to not be up against people who are far far better than me at the game. I just am not operating at the speed these guys are.

However, I understand some good players may choose the noob zone if there was a choice as to where you play with the level of opponents but seriously, this is putting me off RTS multiplayer all over again.

I even tried to play them at their own game just racing up the tech trees and building one of the most powerful units but nope they got there before I did.

The only time I have ever won in 5 hours of playing was rushing as the Zerg, well I say rushing, I was upgrading and taking my time (about 25 minutes), and the guy had a nerve to say it was boring because I "tanked" him with zerglings, and the other fellows.

I get the feeling I'm not the target audience any more.

No friends playing? I always enjoyed playing SC the most when I was playing whilst chatting to someone who was observing and giving advice or criticism.

Getting repeatedly steamrolled by basic rushes is never fun though, especially if you can't work out a reliable way to counter it. Although there always should be.

The counter I'm sure is having defenses to counteract it, however by the time I have them up, they are hitting me with their forces and I have next to no units built in place, I think the secret is to expand very quickly and then build at two places, but that's the point. I don't react quickly enough, or even think what to do for certain bits and therefore I'm just crap at the moment.

Heyho, maybe with enough play time it will get better (I hope so before I get so damned annoyed with it), mind you I'm the only person I knew that had the beta invite straight away, most of everyone I know also are more Xbox 360 fanatics than PC players and as such this is low on their list to care about.

unfortunetly i was one of the many unlucky ones not to get a beta key and was looking at ebay as im pritty desperetate to play been waiting for a decent rts for ages as im bored of everthing else now :(

just so damm expensive ... pritty sure u will get the hang of it soon paul :) guess if u watch some replys and see how there playing and there build orders it would improve your game, and just stick with one race and master that u will find it easier to get into with and your improvements will be more noticable :)

btw does anyone have a rough idea how many keys they even gave out? ... if anyone fed up i will happly take a key off ur hands :)

You shouldn't always need to build much defense early on, just build some units and use them to counter any attack. Also make sure you keep scouting so you know what your enemy is doing, and if you get the chance harass some of their units. Taking out a few works early on can make a big difference, but so can getting your own units destroyed so make sure you dont end up losing your fighting force early.
