**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

has anyone actually installed broodwar and started playing it to "practice" lol

Not to practice, but I've have decided to go through the whole singleplayer campaign again. Currently half way through the zerg campaign.

Not many games make it on to my list of what is worth replaying after 5 years since it was released, although gameplay matters more than graphics, few games have great enough gameplay to make up for dated graphics, but starcraft is one of them things that I couldn't care less of the low res 2D graphics, its just FUN :D.

Just to jump in here...

...Is there anywhere I can buy and download the original starcraft? Does it work on windows 7 and can it be forced to use higher resolutions? (1680x1050)

Used to play and could be fun to give it a bash before the new one comes out:)

Problem is, if i had keys to give out, now i know you are just selling them its hard to give them away.

I mean £200-£400 for a beta key, are you out of your mind!

You can buy direct from Blizzard's Store as a digital download for £9.99.

Not sure if it works on 7 or can use custom resolutions though...

SC 1 is awesome.

I was looking for games for my netbook, and SC1 and broodwar was the first thing that sprung to mind.

Since installing it, I've had very little free time! ;)

I managed to pick up broodwar and SC1 for less than £10 also...

Someone (I don't know if he wants me to avoid revealing his name in case he gets harassed by others) has very kindly given me a key!

I shall be installing it at lunch time and giving it a blast. Thanks a lot!

/me feels like a kid at Christmas.

Starcraft was my first obsessive game - I remember my parents buying it for me for Christmas, but I had found it way before then and was already playing :D

Not too interested in this one at the moment. While I am of the thought "if it aint broke, dont fix it", 2D RTS (vs 3D where you can get straight into the action) games just seem very old fashioned.

The only reason I will play this will be a) because it is going to be incredibly polished b) I always loved the story.

Honesty time: I've been gaming all my life but I have never played StarCraft. Should I?

If you like good graphics and sounds over game play, you will hate SC2. If you like fast games and good game play and not too fussed about the graphics as long as they do the job, I think you will love it. However, I still prefer TA and C&C as the screen feels further away but for game play, im loving it :)

ColiN - it was me who gave the key to Kreeeee, but im out now, had one left.

If I get any more, I will let ppl know. ;)

what he said. SC is arguably the best RTS available. mainly due to its fast pace and gameplay over graphics.
