**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

I'm thinking about installing this again but the last time i did (a couple of months ago) I went to play a multiplayer game and they were all weird game types, nothing like how it was originally

Is it possible to install and have a quick blast on multiplayer like I used to?

No idea what you mean by weird game types. Ladder is same as its always been.

hmmm, when i played again i did a quick match (unranked) and im sure i started off with a base instead of building up and i had to protect something

started off with a base? You always start off with a base, and unranked? You mean custom match? Theres only 1v1 2v2 3v3 4v4 Quick match games, start off with a base and 6 workers and worked up, the only other modes are custom games, are you sure its sc2 your thinking of?

Clearly he's playing minecraft. :D

I played SC2 when it was first released, playing ranked and quick play. I also entered in 1 or 2 ocuk matches.
I always started with 6 workers surrounded by about 10 patches of minerals and 6 workers

When i started a game a couple of months ago i had defence turrets and other stuff already.

...either way, I will install it now and see what the crack is. Havent fired it up in ages and used to love playing (though I wasnt that good) I played some of the guys on here (Kreeeeee I think was one of them) and got taken to town, however it was still fun :)

hmm not sure what that was, may of been a custom game or campaign, but standard 1v1's start with a base and 6 workers. But install it anyway, its really fun.

Nub question but can you get promoted during a season? I've seen people with loads of wins in 4vs4 and they are still in the bronze league?

I tend to play 4vs4 as its better at hiding my lack of skill :D as I tend to watch and get excited by battles rather than macro or micro :(

Yes. Thing is with 4vs4 is it's not only good at hiding a lack of skill, it's also good for occluding skill :p. If you find you're coming up against/with better and better people then you'll eventually get promoted.

Those people with lots of wins in 4vs4 will also have a lot of losses keeping them in bronze.

Now i remember why i had my machine clocked at 3.6ghz! Q6600@ 3.4ghz simply doesnt cut it in 2 vs 2 when its 20 minutes into the game.

Still, i had quite a good game, even though our team lost

I'm thankful Filcos are made hard as rock. Just threw mine across the room.

Storm is so ****ing imbalanced it's not even funny. I'm sat there winning the engagement and BAM here comes three storms all over my army, I pull back ASAP and am still left with red/orange units which Zealots then 1 or 2 hit and not to mention more storms incoming.

Why should a Terran have to micro split like a damn Korean to be able to win against any Protoss with half a brain to know AOE is imba. Such BS.

Is it better to stick with mass blink stalkers when you discover a massive army of Blords or try and quickly produce mass phoenix?

In theory if they already have a massive army of blords it's too late to attempt a huge tech switch like that. You can try to anticipate the brood lords by getting (adding?) stargates for void rays at a timing you know or at a given scouting (they have extra damage vs massive units and can hit more than just air units, plus they'll take less time to get up and running than trying to upgrade phoenixes in time).

Otherwise, when they have mass broods and you're on mass stalker you have a mobility advantage, abuse blink, hit multiple bases and force them to keep their army back while you're getting ready to deal with their core army.

Tbh if they have mass infestor brood lord fully upgraded then you've already lost :p but it's always worth putting up a fight! :D

A big broodlord army will almost always have loads of corruptors too, nullifying your phoenixes. Stick with the stalkers and simply make sure they are targetting the correct things in the battle - nothing more useless than half your army targetting broodlings - leave them to the Colossi. I'm not sure of the exact numbers but a lot of blink stalkers should theoretically 1-shot each BL, so blink under, shift-attack through them and then get away if you can.

my last few games with Zerg have seen me annihilating their zerg/roach/infestor army with my colossus/ht/stalker/zealot deathball then just getting owned by a quick techswitch into mass blords/corrupters. I instantly warp out as many stalkers/archons as I can but my control isn't the sharpest and all my units seem to me attacking the broodlings, as they get surrounded and cannot move to get in range.

When blords are near your main but you cannot reach them, should you try and force your way up to them with everything or bait them into the open ground a bit more, sacrificing some of your main?

I ask this specifically as this situation keeps happening to me and I lose because of it.

ah thanks for the control tip. This has been plaguing me vs broodlords for so long. Nothing worse than seeing my stalkers getting surrounded and being left with no anti air :(

If your trading armies or having a game with no aggression then you should always expect BL infestor cos that's the late game comp for all Zerg matchups. Ultralisks only work well on some maps so you don't see them much these days.

A mother ship is probably the best answer for this. Try and archon toilet them or Atleast cut his army in half with it so you can get a better engagement.

Yeah, if only you could build Ghosts.

Oh wait.

The thing is I don't have any problem with having ghosts aswell as Vikings with my MMM for the AOE units but you have to be incredibly quick with the EMPs because those ghosts are almost always certainly first to go when they're upfront to EMP the HTs where-ever they might be.
I get a lot of friends telling me it's collisi that they find hard to deal with but for me it's HTs due to it basically being instant damage on your army and not much to do about it.

Just had a good game. How do you get void ray acceleration again? I couldn't find the upgrade. I thought it was the fleet beacon but that wasn't it
