**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

been looking at picking starcraft 2 up peeps. Anyone no of somewhere cheap?

I'm not sure if us.battle.net still has it for $40. You'd be able to buy a UK key from them if they are.

If not I heard HMV (if you can find one that still sells PC games) you'll prolly get it for £20.

GAME had it on sale iirc aswell around the time they was going down the drain. Might still be low.

Cheers mate. Popped into Asda earlier but they didn't have it. Battle.net have it for £32.99 I believe which Is a little steep although though I can have it now if I do.

You'll probably not find it instore of anywhere (maybe PC World at full price) just because a lot of high street stores seem to shy away from PC gaming.

Would appreciate if someone could go over my replay and give me some tips, last replay advice really helped a lot.

Cheers

Forgot to add the problems I felt during this game!

I felt I couldn't really protect my bases, they kept getting sniped by loooads of roaches and lings darting about as I tried to secure them. and ofc gaylords with lings killed me at the last part of the game.

ok i had a quick look through there
( if I am wrong about any of this then kamwah or anyone else please correct me :) )

Ok you initial build order was not bad and you did put on a little pressure but I would look at forge fast expand

at several points you had observers sitting idle at home so you could try be a little more active with them as soon as they spawn

You should try keep one of the watch towers at all times so you can have a bit of warning when they are coming at you

Also with zerg you need to try apply some pressure as if you let them get up to macro mode then its hard to stop them

Your scouting late game was a little lacking , his switch to spire tech went unscouted before you saw the broodlords

Also when you killed off a road of roaches as he killed your third then you had some time where you could have killed him I feel

When you see broodlords i would say you need two do one of two things

1 attack and try kill him before he gets to crazy broodlord numbers ( especially if you have just killed off his first few and still have a decent army

2 try get mothership to get a vortex off and then either kill them with an archon toilet or get half the broodlords in the vortex and kill them off in two halfs

Those are the things that I noticed :)

I'd always go FFE against Zerg, it takes a while to get the hang of it but it's pretty simple.

Gateway was late. (12 or 13 gateway.)

First Zealot was way late. He could have pressured with lings too easily. You also want to setup your wall like this.

I've seen at least two short pauses on work production, it snowballs so keep an eye on it.

Put your probe behind his third. If there's no third by 5:00'ish it means he's going to be putting on pressure at some point in the future.

Another pause on workers. If you want to go double gas then it's best to place the 2nd Assimilator when you place down your cybernetics core.

Still no block. You'd be dead from any pressure at 4:17. A good Zerg would atleast throw a ling up and see if you've expanded.

Your opponent is quite terrible. He's going for a economic opening but not actually taking his third and floating loads of minerals cos of it.

5:49 -You moved out with a stalker and a Sentry. No need for it and a much more common move out time would be with your first Stalker/Zealot and that's only if you make them as soon as the Gateway allows.

The Stalker/Sentry just reached the opponents base. You didn't check for the third.

You don't move your observer in to see what tech he has or his third. (you just did)

10:04 - you place down your 3/4th gas on your expansion. I would have expected you to do this sooner as Protoss is a very gas-heavy race.

By 10mins you should have chosen your tech path. Place down the twilight council for templar tech or robo bay for collosi.
You just placed down both which isnt a bad idea, i'd expect a third pretty soon tho.

Ok it just went down XD

To stop ling runbys it's popular to block off the third with gateways.

You need to keep replacing the observers you lose that are over his base. If you dont know what he's doing then you can't react. He could have gone mutas and then your collosi tech would be worthless.

Get double forge once you're on 2/3base. You'll easily be able to afford it.

Move over your workers from your main to a less saturated base when it starts to run out of minerals. You should be on atleast 4 bases at 17mins.

Pretty sure I didn't see any warpins while you were fighting which is why you couldn't keep up with army size. He can keep defending with cheap as chip roaches.

I wouldn't have switched to HTs as Roaches dance in storms.

You didn't clean up the burrowed ling on your fourth which has delayed it. At this point you've stuck on 3bases too long and you're about to be overrun.

Storm damage doesn't stack so if you use 3 storms then it won't do 3x the damage.

It's 23:34 and I hve no idea what this guy is doing. He has the bank to build an army of whatever he wants and he just isn't. All the way through the game his minerals have been insanely high.

26:54 - OMG HES FINALLY GETTING BROODLORDS! After having the damn Greater Spire for like 5mins.

Just finished watching. You played way too passive and didn't keep an eye on him with observers. Also you need to expand more.

PvZ - Dealing with Broodlords.

1. Mothership - Use it for Archon Toilets. In the lower levels this is incredibly easy to pull off because most low level players don't understand the other races.

2. Voidrays + Mothership - A style becoming popular is using a handful of voidrays to deal with the broodlords but this depends on the Corruptor numbers.

Also during that game he just had lings and BLs. If he doesn't have Infestors with his BLs then just blink forward and kill them. At that point though you'd already been crippled.

Yeah I felt like was was playing catch up that game. When I get into that mode I just go soo sluggish for some reason. forget warp ins, when I moved forward didn't set up pylon etc.

Oh I though psi storms stacked :D And thought they where good against roaches, every time I use them on a massive roach army they seem to melt away, though I usually have colossi helping as well.

Oddly enough the next game after that was an exact copy, zerg on same map went 3 base roach/blord and same quality of player and I beat him by getting out mothership and I did wall in better.

I'd like to get carriers into more games in 1v1 but they're so freaking long vs quick blords.

just got promoted to gold 1v1 on my second match :D

Played a pvp and we went almost identical, 3 base mass colossi DTs.

This guy sent dts into my base and took out my robo, I already had 200/200 and about 10 colossi. I sent dts to his third and destroyed it. then we clashed and he had no detection >.<

Not played SC2 since last Nov and that was single player. Are there any Diablo style mods for the game yet? I am surprised Blizzard haven't seen the potential in that one ..

I assume Blizzard will make it so you need WoL. Increases their sales of the original, and that seems to be the way the company is heading under activision.
