**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Hank...

You went gas before gateway. Probably a mistake.

You followed that scouting probe from your base which you shouldn't do past your natural. Your first Stalker should look for a proxy pylon (being probably the fastest ground unit)

You did a job keeping the probe alive in his base for quite a while.

Not using your first gateway for a Stalker or Zealot.

1 Sentry delays a 4gate to the point where you're in a much better position because you're not cutting workers to 4gate. You also had 368 gas at 5:46, 3 sentrys would completely stop a 4gate while 6 sentrys = infinite FFs.

Pulled all your probes when the first Zealot/Stalker came in. Don't pull them all or you're not going to be able to afford to hold this off.

You need to Kite Zealots with Stalkers. You should never take more than 1 hit from a Zealot if you're using stalkers vs just Zealots.

1 Sentry would have stopped that and you had the money all along.

Holding your watch-tower can also catch probes sharking around to your side of the map to place proxy pylons (especially on daybreak) as long as he doesn't go the extremely long way round.

Just to add, there are plenty of builds to counter a 4gate. Alex mentioned the best IMO which is the defensive 4gate(2gas) so you can get more sentrys. Gives you the ability to counter attack if your opponent is stupid enough not to GG after failing a 4gate.

ok just had a wee look through and I am sure that kamwah will give better advice

As protoss sentries are very important early game if you had one early on then you could have used forcefields to buy you time to get the immortal out.

you also had only two on the left gas one worker was idle but i presume that this was just a misclick that isnt normally a problem

I am sure that there are things that i missed but thats the biggest things that i got from just having a quick look through the replay

If you want I can give you someone to practise agaisnt with four gates , I could just four gate you a few times and see if we can get someone of a higher level to watch and give advice.

Ah yes sentries FF the ramp I forgot about this. The next time I see multiple gateways in their base I will quickly build 2 sentries and watch my ramp. When I see him coming I'll FF the ramp, and try and get more units out quickly.

By the way noob question here, but how do you kite properly with stalkers, especially when I've got two? Everytime I try to kite-attack my stalker just roots to the spot and gets overrun.

Hmm..well same principle as with microing terran bio, only waaaay easier :D

right click 'back' so it starts walking then either attack move anywhere on the screen or right click the enemy. Whatever works for you. I've for some reason gotten into the habit of using attack move for my micro since it involves less mouse movement but it's an extra buttonclick so whatever you feel comfortable with.

Anyway, once your stalker(s) has fired the shot then you right click away again. That way it is forced to move away.

Is this what you meant or have i just come across as a patronising ****? :D

Well multiple gateways don't mean 4gate but you should always have a few sentrys because they stop 4gates and pressure builds(3gate).

Well the way I do it is clicking A on the ground the giving a move command somewhere else then A-clicking quickly. That's pretty micro intensive.
Another way is to move them and press H(hold) whenever you want to stop to attack then tell it to move after it's shot once.

Just to add I recently changed one of my alt accounts names to XD
That'll give someone who knows the esports scene a laugh.

Tbh what you're really looking for in detecting a 4gate is probe production and chronoboost saving/expenditure. It's common to spend 1-2 chronos on warp gate but if they're at 100% with 19 probes then you know something's a bit fishy :p

As kamwah says though, sentries are wonderful units. Build them! :)

Ah yes this is what I do, but I always seem to not be disciplined enough to gain distance and want to finish the unit off quickly and take dmg, then more units come in and I've taken dmg from not kiting properly and quickly lose the unit

GGs you two. I think Hank you have the right idea in defence, but try to work on your unit efficiency, not sacrificing sentries and the ever valuable stalkers with no reason. It's all practice really at this point. :)

haha yeah, I thought I'd overpower him but lost everything when I went out. Also I had a proxy set up but forgot about it. could've sent 4 zealots in to his mineral line when I was safe in my base, but yeah I dumped loads of gateways when I had 1000 minerals and 50 gas, why I didn't go more immorals, though I should've.

:D I'd say in general try not to do too much. Certainly take advantage of your proxy but you shouldnt have had 8 gateways running off of one base. Try to get the production cycle to be instinctive. That way with 3-4 production buildings you'll (almost) always keep your money low off of one base...

Just downloaded the starter edition last night, been playing through the first couple of missions this morning. Really enjoying it so far, which i didn't think I would do.

New season starts today i think! Also with the new map, Blizzard have shockingly taken out the rocks at the third! Wooo.

New season means new placement match, means a chance to drop down the ranks by playing badly! Yeah :D
