**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

online is pretty dead, taking longer and longer to find games these days.

What? sorry but you couldn't be more wrong, this game is far from dead - especially in esports where it is still huge.

It's always worth getting back into, though as always if you wish to excel in 1v1 the learning curve is rather steep if you're aiming for diamond/masters from scratch - even if you're not interested in that, there's always team games and a fair number of decent custom games to play.

So its like MMOs where characters need to be built and experience gained?

Weeell, the experience part yes you could say that. Playing experience is essential to get good, losing helps you get better because you watch the replay and see why you lost and know how to beat it next time.

To be really good at the game you have to know the possibilities of early game 'cheese' (majority of bronze-gold players go all in with everything on one base).

Learn to fend off early game cheese, scout properly and have good macro (base building, expansions, economy) and you'll be up in at least plat/diamond.

Jeepers sounds so crazy. Hmm yes i remember not using macros and clicking everything into place. Yes im going to need some practice. I will probably find that old copy and play it, its out of stock or way overpriced everywhere else.

there is an official forum thread for Sc2 so it might be a good place to start

>>>SC2<<<
And the on-line is still going strong , with the esports section being massive as well.

there is a big learning curve but if you go onto the OcUk chat channel there is normally someone about who can give and you a game and some advice. There are players of all calibre from the forums there , from bronze through gold ( myself) all the way to masters so there are a lot of people there that can help you :)

Not a fan of any the Foreigners really. Major is probably one of my under rated favs

The only reason I know who he is is because lastshadow mentioned him in his stream. He said that Major is the best NA terran by quite a margin, followed by LS and select. I've never heard his name mentioned again until you just did.

It's weird that there's never any mention of Major doing much, competing/winning etc.

LastShadow is not a pro and is nowhere near any kind of pro level lol XD
Select is a Korean, not a foreigner.
Major is also not American, he's Mexican but I assume he meant best Terran on the NA ladder (which I highly doubt because there's plenty of Koreans and pro euros on there)

I don't think he's sponsored or even in a team anymore. I know in the past he's had huge attitude issues and he's still banned from the teamliquid forums as far as I know. I mean he got kicked from ROOT XD This is the same team that puts up with Destinys ********.
I know he's very good friends with the some of the top pro koreans after spending some time over there training.

Starcraft 2 is in no way dead at all. It's growing all the time and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Doesn't matter whether HotS will change the game completely or not. The skills you need to succeed can be learned from WoL.

Gah had a terrible night tonight. loss after loss and I just played terrible but kept going since I wanted that win and it was a disaster. Turned game off went and made dinner watched some Mad Men then game back with a clear head and nerves and stormed to some 1v1 wins.

Anyone else get into that mode where they start sliding down, but feel compelled to keep playing to get that win to end a bad session?

Yes, emotional trauma ensues. Wish I didn't care about losing to people who make so many stupid decisions you're almost certain it's cost them the game but alas.

Here's the stats to show how well Terran are doing in recent major tournaments. Blizz says we're doing well <3

Also the TLPD on Teamliquid's website tracks nearly all professional games played in online/offline tournies. The TvZ winrate atm is at 26%

Anyone listen to state of the game last night? Just caught up on the podcast. Every korean terran complaining about tvz at the moment apparantly. Only counter anyone came up with was "tell that to MVP" and "this always happens after a buff/nerf, it gets figured out"

Well it's been a month now and no one's figured it out

Just sayin......
