TvP: I keep getting owned by 3-gate stalkers. suggestions?

At the start of the game?

A bunker at your ramp instead of two supply depots + rax will stop it dead. The maths you need to keep in your head is he needs 2 stalkers to every marauder. The more maurauders you get the worse it is for the stalker. If you have 10 rauders + 10 marines he'd need like 30 stalkers...

Theres no way you can't have enough marauders out to deal with this if hes gone for blink, if hes gone for a rush on researching blink also I would say it would go even more in your favour as he will have less stalkers.

Just got raped by some guy who built a pylon in my base then a photon cannon. Dont even know what i was doing didnt attack either with enough scv's and by the time he got the cannon up i was done for. Won a 50 minute game after TvT both turtling until i finally amassed the bigger army after mining out 4 expansions

If you're Terran and didn't notice the cannon rush you can just lift off and use your natural or something. You'll suffer an economic hit but won't be as bad as the protoss.

For protoss players having trouble with Terran here's a few of my recent games (today) that all kinda follow a similar theme: basically harass and contain, expand/tech, hold their push (if it comes) and then crush.

Hi Folks,

I play terran (this is my first sc game and online rts) and am having trouble later in the game. If I don't win with rushes of teched up marines or the flying marines (I forget the name) I get bogged down in building an army and start to struggle with my economy.

Any advise would be great. When do you expand, how do you defend expansions without weakening the defence of your main base.

Also, I have only just started including tech upgrades in my build, is there a website that will let me know how much it improves the marines etc I don't really know the impact of the research.

Last thing, if anyone is up for some 2v2 give me a shout. I have only played 1v1.

SC2 name is Slinkie ( number 660)

Cheers

Matt

Some basic tips which apply to anything

1. Keep building workers (scvs) throughout the game. Until you have like 50.

2. Learn and practice hotkeys (try the single player challenges to practice these).

3. Whenever there isn't a battle (and sometimes, even when there is), always be switching back to your command centre, and unit producing structures to queue up extra units.

4. SC/SC2 is not so much about defending your base so much, as it is attacking your opponent so he can't attack you.

5. Combat shield gives your marines an extra 10 health, which means in battles they can take an extra hit. When you have like 20 marines, that is a huge boost. Concussive shell means your marauders shots will bascially stun what they are shooting at. Against protoss this is a MASSIVE advantage. Stim means your barracks units (marines and marauders) deal more damage.

is there a key to cycle through units or a hotkey to select a specific building. aside from binding them yourself?

If you have 1 big hotkey with units, you can use tab to cycle through the unit types. Same goes for structures.
Also protoss have a specific hotkey for warpgates, 'w', which i think is more what you're talking about.

also iirc, some of the early function keys can be used to zoom to your bases..

its more to be honesrt so i can select a single scv instead of having to go back to my cc and select one like that.

Losing in this game annoys me so much. Even though i know im going to lose a lot as im pretty knew to it i just cant stand it. End up leaving it for ages as soon as i lose. Especially when its some to crappy rush which is becoming ever more common and im only in bronze league. Why the hell am i not coming across anyone who is worse/as good as me..

So much to all the people that say a good macro gets you to silver/gold league. Apparently it cant even get me to rank 30 in bronze.

Post some replays of games where you think you were macroing really well but still lost?

What kind of 'rushes' are you losing to? There are very few rushes that, if you know they are coming, are very hard to stop. Post some replays of the rushes you've lost to, and I am almost certain one of us can show you how to stop it.
