Oscar Pistorius thread

But this is all irrelevent really. If it really *was* an intruder, why would he have run and locked himself in the toilet before being approached by the home owner? There would have been no reason to do such a thing until he knew he'd been discovered! No cash or tv's to steal in the bog.

Perhaps he needed the loo.

I think its been brought up enough times now, but its likely because he thought she was safe.

Remember that it was the middle of the night, pitch black and he was likely to be a bit sleep drowsy. When he got up, he probably thought Reeva was still asleep; having then come back in from the balcony, he hears noises in the bathroom, given how paranoid he is about robbery, he instantly goes into an adrenaline charged fright and grabs his gun. He thinks Reeva is still there in bed, he tells her to call the Police, screams at the person in the bathroom as he is moving further away from her, around the corridor towards the bathroom. He has a gun, so he is protecting her, given that she is behind him.

Yes, his next move of shooting without really establishing who it was is stupid, and a decision that will haunt him for the rest of his life. The fact is though, his version of events is just as plausible right now as that of the prosecution, that he deliberately killed Reeva.

Sorry Fox but my in laws are from SA and indeed live on a "secure compound with security patrols" and they have had to endure all sorts of nasty stuff even though its meant to be secure. I don't want to start any debate as my only point really was why shoot first when he didn't know where she was before opening fire?

I find it difficult to swallow, that anyone would shoot at someone without knowing what they were shooting at.
Plus if most blokes heard a funny noise they'd give the Mrs a dig in the ribs and say go see what that is!!!!
Joking aside, before anything, you'd make sure family was OK, before you started shooting.

If you thought you were going to be killed by someone locked in your bathroom, wouldn't you get the hell out of the house asap with your gun and call the police? This guy was supposed to be scared senseless.

Why would a burglar lock himself in the bathroom if startled, wouldn't he run out the door, climb or jump out the window, or better yet just shoot you dead?

If SA is so dangerous and every intruder has guns, why would you stand up with your legs on, right next to the door where said intruder is? At the very least you shoot like hell at the toilet door from the bedroom door because you're so scared. You'd stay as far away from the threat as possible, while shooting, no?

Why did he completely forget about and ignore the person he was in the same bed with? Surely he would have shouted her name to see if she was okay and the answer would have been "in the loo dear".

In the 3 months they lived together, surely she must have gone to the loo at night at least once before and "woken him up". Why wait until now to shoot the "intruder"?

Yes, because thats exactly what he said. Not.

'Everyone out, now'

Intruders don't break in to commit random acts of murder for the lulz. They break in to steal things, and carry weapons to intimidate the people they might meet and protect themselves from any violence from the home owners.

You really don't know SA.

I was born and raised in Nigeria and if 'Teef Men' got through the secure compound and past our 'Watchnight man' into our property I can tell you for fact that we would have been in a very vulnerable position even if locked in a room.
We were also in a very vulnerable position because there was only one way in & out of the property because 'Teef bars' were placed all over the windows.

It would be fairly unlikely if an intruder took it upon himself to chase through the house after the occupants in order to execute them.

The occupants fleeing is exactly what an intruder wants - he wants to thieve your stuff, not add 2 counts of premeditated murder to his rap sheet.
I think you'll find that there are types of intruders that commit random acts of violence for the "lulz" as you put it. Richard Ramirez is a perfect example of an intruder who was only interested in causing violent deaths.

Glad I'm not on the jury for this.

Part of me thinks if he was woken by a noise and thought 'intruder' would you not think of the safety of your family and look at your partners side of the bed. Failing that, would you not call out before opening fire? I kinda think he must have done it but at the same time it seems so OTT. Seems such a waste, both had so much going for them, even if he didn't knowingly do it and isn't jailed, he'll always now also be known for this. Even if it were an intruder he didn't know if they were armed. At the very least he isn't responsible enough to have a fire arm on the strength of his defence.

Another long winded OJ trial to come with a predictable outcome imo.

He can then write a book in a few years saying I didn't do it as they said but if I did this is what happened that night.

My point was that they do exist.

And my point is that they are so ridiculously rare it cannot possibly be justification for going hunting for the strange noise you heard armed with a handgun, and then firing off 4 shots without even seeing the person in question.

You are in bed. You hear a noise. Place the following scenarios in order of likelyness:

a) It is clearly a Richard Ramierize style psychopathic murder killer.
b) Somebody has climbed in through an open window to pinch your telly
c) The girlfriend has popped to the loo
d) Taylor Swift has decided to pop in for an inpromptu concert

Quick, grab that handgun.

Guilty as sin if you ask me, like others have said if youre a burglar you do not go to the ensuit bathroom of the master suit where the people are because you risk getting caught or shot, you stay down stairs and rob their tv and ipad while they sleep soundly.

I dont think the fact he has been granted bail is any way a sign of his innocents, personally i dont think this guy has a leg to stand on BOOM BOOM
