Oscar Pistorius thread

Just putting it out there and to clarify, I'm not a racist, but does this whole thing have a colour of skin undertone? Considering the judge is black and Pistorius is white - as well as rich, famous and in the medias eye - is she trying to 'keep the peace' in a country - sorry continent - that has a north / south divide of race?

Then on the 13th of October he should get 10 to 15 but I bet he walks away with a suspended sentence or something like that.

Indeed, no doubt he'll get away with a fine, a shame because no amount of money is going to bring their daughter back, justice won't get served. :(

Unbelievable, you hear a noise in the bathroom in the middle of the night, your girl friend isn't beside you.... Eh!!! so your first assumption is that its an intruder!!!

Where on earth did he think she was!!!

I don't see why this is getting so much attention, nothing to say an athlete is some special or extra moral people, the amount of athlete busted for drug taking is quite a lot so I don't understand the mass media frenzy.

Global sports megastar kills attractive SA TV celeb lawyer girlfriend.

I can't understand it either

She said the state had failed to prove he intended to kill Reeva Steenkamp.

She being the judge. The prosecution failed to prove beyond doubt he murdered her. If the judge had gone with murder then the appeals would be next. I'd be surprised if the prosecution appealed the culpable homicide verdict. Better to get him on something than risk prolonging proceedings and risk an even lighter sentence.

I think we all know what really happened but its proving it beyond doubt and making it stick.

You shoot through a door knowing someone is behind it and someone dies then you've murdered someone. I don't know if in his head he was shooting his girlfriend or some meth addict home invader but you don't shoot through a door 4 times into a small bathroom as a warning.

Yes SA is different to here, but his life was not in danger, someone was in the bathroom doing normal bathroom things and for whatever reason he decided to shoot through a door.

Indeed, he shot to kill, regardless of if it was an intruder or his wife, he shot 4 times into the bathroom with intent to kill, so he should be locked up.

However, unfortunately they cannot prove if he intended to kill his wife, so in the laws eyes, it is not murder.
