Oscar Pistorius thread

To be fair, he's got 100+ pages of examples of charity work he's done, so that should count as sentence credit.... right?

Plus let's not forget his therapist's testimony, he's already been punished enough.
Haha it's amazing that his charity work should even come into consideration as balancing out his crimes!

Jimmy Saville ran **** loads of marathons for charity I reckon by South African law he'd have still had a few child sex offences in hand before he went to jail :p

I'm surprised his charity work is even being discussed as part of the process.

How is it relevant, exactly?

If I kill someone, does the dead person care that I spent the previous 10 years being Mother Theresa in the community ffs?

Lets get this straight:

Pistorious gunned his GF down through a toilet door, without even carrying out the most basic of checks to ascertain who was in the toilet (such as calling out). One of the rounds was a headshot.

He simply must serve time in a proper prison. Otherwise the entire justice system is a farce.

Charity work hours are sort of like Tesco Clubcard points, once you've accumulated enough you can trade them in for a free meal at Pizza Express or time off your prison sentence.

I know, all joking aside it's utterly sickening.

So we've had;

'He's suffered enough'
'He's done a lot of charity work'

And today;

'How can we say Pistorius will not be a victim of gang rape?'

The whole '3 years house arrest' being pushed by the defense is nothing short of a disgrace.

Apparently he didn't run them. He'd be driven to within a few miles of the town he was destined to visit and then hop out and jog. Same thing when he set off, he'd run a few miles then jump in the ambulance/van.

According to Richard Herring that's the worst thing he did.

I was trying to catch some of this while working earlier and also couldn't believe what I was hearing. The whole thing about prison rape was ridiculous!

I also thought there was a real switch on the issue of his disability. He's the guy whose disability was not going to be an issue for him, so he competed in the Olympics and so much was based around him conquering it. Yet here we see them arguing about the fact there isn't a handrail in the showers, and with his disability it means that he couldn't be in a prison as a result. As such, it seems ludicrous that you would not inprison someone when you could spend a small sum making disability access.

I believe they were also discussing community work and roles he could take in society when returning to a somewhat normal life, which included working in the family business and also they were discussing working with children. That just sounds crazy! Yes he might have been South Africa's greatest inspiration, but he's fallen s long way from that mantle, I can't see many parents wanting their kids anywhere near him.

... South Africa are in serious danger of making themselves into a laughing stock at this rate.

"He might get some unwanted man-love in the showers..."

What - like most of the rest of the prisoners imprisoned in the jails there? And our jails?

I suspect Miss Steenkamp would have preferred that and being alive, to being murdered by a selfish coward.
