OSX El Capitan

The dev versions have near identical performance to Yosemite on my Core 2 Mac mini. That's with an SSD fitted. Mavericks onwards are very beachball-y on mechanical drives.

Think of El Cap as Snow Yosemite. ;)

Be very careful if you use Office for Mac 2011 (or Outlook 2016) as there appears to be a known issue where it simply hangs / crashes constantly.

My outlook is useless currently!

Thanks for the heads-up. I was just about to start the upgrade.....think I'll hold of for a bit then.

EDIT: Did a bit of looking about and it appears it's mainly Outlook with the issues, as long as you have the very latest update installed for Office 2011 the rest of the apps should be fine. I've now updated and everything is running fine.

I use a little addon called BetterSnapTool which is much better than the in-built controls.

Cheers, I'll have a look tonight. But why don't Apple build in something decent into the OS? M$ managed it in 2007 when Windows Vista was released.

The built in one into El Capitan is dreadful if you ask me, especially on a 5k iMac.

I think they want you to utilise full screen apps etc...

Full screen apps on a 27" monitor with 5k resolution is unworkable unless it's something like Lightroom, PS or iMovie etc. For day to day working windows manipulation needs some love from Apple IMO.

Any way you can turn off the stupid drag app to the top of screen for mission control feature? I have Bettersnaptool using the top of the screen as a maximise and it's annoying me about every 5 mins.

I have killed mission control entirely at present but that's not a permanent solution.

Entirely wrong!

2011 simply wont work on El Captain AFAIK!
