** OSX Yosemite **

I am trying to update to DP8 and the download says 10 hours. Its downloading in Kb!

I have installed DP1 and gone through all the updates. Some download really really fast. Others don't.

Example,

DP2 Downloaded rapid.
DP3 Download took 18 hours
DP4 Download took 2 mins
DP5 Download took 2 mins
DP6 Download took 12 hours
DP7 Download took minutes
DP8 now says 6 hours.

Anyone understand?

Apple's server game is weak. I've noticed on iOS apps sometimes take forever to download even over my 150mb connection at home, at other times its speedy.

Really started to be impressed with Yosemite. PB4 has improved on PB3.

What i'm really wondering though is if Yosemite and Server 4.0 solves the absolutely dire situation of SMB file sharing that Mavericks was/is plagued with. I've read that they're upgrading to SMB3 in 10.10 so i'm a little wary.

Biggest mistake I've made as work was upgrading everyone to Mavericks...biggest headache ever with timing out server connection, losing connections, duplicate connections, slow connection, weird open directory errors, external storage not working correctly...

Use SMB at work most days, the pain I feel when it takes close to a min at times to download 10mb files. on PB4.

I've had zero problems with a colleague and I running it on our machines connecting to a Mavericks server but I fear that if the main server was running Yosemite it may be a different kettle of fish.

Hopefully I'm wrong and it fixes all the issues that Mavericks has.

Bring on SMB3 hopefully! :p

Gone with each of the DP 1 through 7 and now onto the GM Candidate.... pretty decent and seems rock solid so far on the MBA.

Dark mode still needs some work, but that's more the actual responsibility of the app devs rather than Apple to get their icons looking good.

Been running it on my production Mac since PB2. Not much else to say except I like it a lot more than Mavericks and the PBs have been solid so far.

Am I right the PB5 iMessage can't send SMS... It the GM that is enabled to do this?? As I have been a PB for a while just a shame we don't get the GM yet.

I was quite the fan of skeuomorphism of iOS 6 and older and Aero Glass with Windows 7, but it seems "Flat" is the in thing now as everyone seems to be going down that route from Apple with iOS7+ and Yosimite, Microsoft with Modern UI and even Google with the flat logo on their homepage!

Arguably I could wait now given the Apple event this week.
However, think I might give the 'beta' a go now anyway.
Couple quick questions.
Does a full Time Machine backup suffice should I need to roll back to Mavericks?
The machine is a Macbook Pro so only has one disk.

Also, once the beta is installed what is the route for getting the 'release' version? Will it install over the top or require a complete new install?
