** OSX Yosemite **

Probably better waiting until the morning. At least you won't be contending with all the 'muricans melting the CDN.

Edit: 1 day, 3 hours remaining :)

48 mins remaining. I hope this is less buggy then iOS 8 has been so far.

iOS 8 has done for my iPad 2 despite doing a clean install. I can't help but wonder if this is deliberate by Apple to make the consumer upgrade. Safari is so laggy now.

I was reading something only the other day which stated that all tablet manufacturers were concerned that consumers aren't upgrading their tablets frequently enough. Even when they do upgrade the existing tablet is often passed to a family member meaning yet another lost sale.

Relatively painless upgrade on my MacBook Pro.
Just got to find all the new features now :)

Only minor flaw is the App Store keeps wanting to update iTunes 12.01 but it has already installed it.

The update finished without the need for a clean install. I had an issue with re-enabling TRIM on my 3rd party SSD, but its all working now.

I wanted to say that I hated the new flat look as much as I hated the god awful icons in iOS7...but I don't. I am actually very surprised at how much I am enjoying the new look (except the system preferences icon, it's horrible). Dark mode looks so slick!

How to create a bootable OS X Yosemite installer

NOTE: You will need a USB disk with at least 8GB of storage

  • Open Disk Utility
  • Format USB stick as a single partition called MyVolume (make sure GUID is selected in drive options)
  • Download Yosemite from Mac App Store
  • When complete the installer will automatically open
  • Quit installer
  • Open Terminal and paste this command...

Code:
sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Yosemite.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/MyVolume --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Yosemite.app
This assumes that the volume we created earlier is called MyVolume and that the Yosemite installer is in your Applications folder.
Also note, that this process is the same for Mavericks. Find and replace "Yosemite" with "Mavericks" in the Terminal command

  • Wait - this may take up to 30 mins to transfer to USB.
  • Reboot your Mac holding the "Option" key.
  • Open disk utility before proceeding with the installation.
  • Wipe primary hard drive volume (if you wish to format and start afresh).
  • Quit Disk Utility.
  • Continue with Yosemite installation.

This will create a bootable USB image of the fresh Yosemite installer. Enjoy Yosemite :)

Seems centered around connecting to other i-devices. As someone with only a rMBP i'm happy to hold off. Tried the beta and didn't like the new spotlight implementation or new design much.
