** OSX Yosemite **

I tried to enable TRIM on my MBP, it asked me to reboot, but i think it has killed the HDD !

All I got is this

Anyone got a clue?

Recovering from stop sign on boot screen
For those who are stuck on the grey boot screen, here’s how you get back into OS X:

Boot recovery mode by holding Cmd+R during boot

Open the Terminal from the menu bar

Run these commands, replacing YourDisk with the name of your Mac disk (partition)

nvram boot-args=kext-dev-mode=1
cd /Volumes/YourDisk
touch System/Library/Extensions
kextcache -prelinked-kernel System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/kernelcache -K System/Library/Kernels/kernel System/Library/Extensions
Wait until it finishes (can take several minutes) and reboot.

If you still can’t boot, redo the procedure again (but you can skip the nvram command)

Will I actually achieve anything with a fresh install? Looking at it now, I think my current build (10.10) is actually just a straight upgrade path from 10.4. Don't think I've ever done a clean install, even after changing hardware.

How do I find out the name of my mac disk petition?

When you're in the Terminal, just 'cd' to /Volumes and then do an ls. That'll list the volumes.

Am I missing out on something? I've must have downloaded Yosemite like 3 times now from App Store. It's around 5GB right? It says 'Downloaded' but it doesn't give me an option to install? If I reboot my Mac Mini, it only lets me redownload it again?

Well, I posted earlier that I had a stuck update that wouldn't clear.
Also found that I couldn't get Continuity to work either.

Took the plunge and did a complete trash and rebuild. Fortunately not had the machine long so not much to save!

Anyway now all up and running and there are several bits that now look quite a bit different to the in place upgrade install.
The new look seems more consistent and a few other minor tray icons etc have changed slightly.
Continuity also now working!

It also linked my machine login to my Apple ID rather than using a local user. Not sure if that was by design or something I chose without realising, but might be the solution to Continuity.

So, anyone else having problems probably well worth doing a full reinstall even if it is a bit of a pain.

So, not a retina/HiDPI display then. :D

To be fair I've not tried it as yet. The mini is an HTPC, so if it ain't broke don't fix it. I'll have to try the MBP on the 24" Dell. Helvetica Neue does look a tad spindly compared to Lucida Grande.

What is the command to list the volumes?

Cd does nothing, /volumes doesn't either.
