No, I will not pay for your working holiday.

Sounds like a fantastic life experience and great expedition but you should pay for it yourself like everyone else who goes on such trips has to!

indeed... and you could donate they dont make the 19k and then your paying towards "next years expedition" instead ROFL

sounds like a nice idea to get a yearly holiday why dont we start an ocuk members expedition to silicon valley or something.

im sure we can round up some donations

He's going to have the time of his life, he'll gain skills and knowledge which will make his future employability increase significantly and he'll spend the sort of time in a foreign country most of us could only dream of.

Which is fantastic - but getting everyone else to pay for it through donations? I think not. There are numerous more worthy charities you can donate to if you wish to donate money - charities where the work involved really is a chore, not somebodies dream trip.

I don't have any intention of donating, if I want to donate money I'd give it to Macmillan or something decent. Saying that if some proper research is getting done it is mildly better than the majority of donate money for my holiday schemes.

Ok, thanks anyway. We are paying for it ourselves, our personal equipment, vaccinations, flights and travel for instance. Obviously we couldn't afford the equipment needed to survey, scientist wages and so on which is why we need to raise funding. The work will very much be a chore as I heard from the previous expedition out there last summer, who where looking at effects of oil companies in the area.

Didn't read about the University department connection in my haste to moan about people raising money for holidays. Although it still stands for the majority, and I suspect to some extent this one, I take it back about this one if it's going to involve doing proper research.

No worries :) Our adviser/research leader has been working in the area for many years now and we will be doing similar research which will be especially helpful since we are working in unexplored areas.

Of course, I'm sure once people hear we'd have to get up really early and work really hard I'm sure they'll fork out!

eh? you said you need to raise 19k INCLUDING FLIGHTS (WHICH WE ARE PAYING FOR)

if your paying for threm why do you need to raise 19k including flights? you mean your paying for them upfront and then getting the money back ?

If we don't make the money this year it will go towards the same planned expedition, but set back a year. I don't see why it's funny.

Yea, 19k is the cost of the trip, we each put in £850 for flights. We do not get the money back, so by your definition we need to raise just under 14k.

i need funding for an expedition to survey some almost extinct red lions.

about £50 should to do it i will pay for my own taxi and kebab

so you dont need to raise 19k now? :O

Seems pretty clear that he's just subtracted the money they each put in from the 19k. Not hard to understand.

seems pretty clear he wanted to raise 19k and was not putting any money in.

if he already had the 5k they dont need to raise 19k :S

Reading between the lines I'd say they need 19k and 6 of them put in £850 each towards the total required. That takes you down to around £14k. He's not misrepresenting the amount required.
