Overclocking an i7 920 D0 - 4.7GHz

Right now I'm at 4GHz (200*20), at 1.2v with HT on. I'm quite happy with how low the volts are (upping it to 200*21 requires 1.3v), so I'm staying at 4GHz for now. I've not tried higher than 200 BCLK, but I'll try it now. :D

Intel Burn Test gives me max temps of 63, so I'd consider that pretty damn good.

finally after 4 days working 12 hour night shifts i have been able to play round with mine and currently have it running prime at 4Ghz with VCore 1.28, so far temps are maxing out at 70. hopefully it will stay stable then i can have a go at the memory

Im pretty sure that mine can reach the special 4.2 level, but for now im keeping mine at 4.0 as its perfectly stable and can run most things fine

right then
got a few days off work,
just having a quick go with this new beta bios and my new ocz blade memory before i go to London for a few days

heres my findings for the BIOS:
the beta bios has allowed me to go to 4.7GHz using a BCLK of 224
so it has raised the max BCLK of the board to 224
it gets into windows - but that is about it

4.66GHZ @ 222BCLK is now 3D benchmarkable using vantage/06/crysis/FC2 etc

the memory divider i WANT [2000MHZ DRAM @ 200 BCLK] still does not work
i have emailed BIOSTAR about it to see if they have a fix - will report back when i get a reply

my findings for the Memory:
although i am unable to get the 2000MHZ divider to work - the memory is working all the way up to 1800MHZ by increasing the BCLK

the memory is running at 1600MHZ on my 4.2GHz profile

the timings are insane and beat my reaper kit hands down
BLADE @ 1600MHZ @ 7-7-7-18 1T
REAPER @ 1600MHZ @ 8-8-8-26 2T

the board has memtest86 built into the bios - running that - the memory passes at 6-6-6-16 1T !!!, it also passes prime but fails linpack

the timings remain tight at higher speeds too! - just brilliant imo
looking forward to a bios that works with the divider i want so i can get the best out of this memory

am now running my system with all fans on molex - its a lot louder than it was with the zalman controller - but my temps have dramatically changed [and i use my headset so i cant hear it]

Would be tempting to see how well my ram goes when I overclock mine further to 4.2

What I dont get after this is about making the Ram work to there fullest, and how much of a speed boost my system would get at the end of it all.

rjkoneill

Whats your timings mate for that 4.2 profile so i can change all mine to yours lol
also one of the sticks of reapers i just got doesnt work, or has just stoped working.

when i start the system up the bios only see`s 4gig but if i go to the ONE menu and look at the memory identification it shows all 3 slots with memory in it LOL

if i boot into windows and run CPUZ it shows 6gig, but when i look in task manager it only shows 4086 being used.

anyway i have just ordered some BLADES 2000 ;) and will send the reapers back tommorow when the blades arrive.

BTW the current bios im useing is :

BIOS Version 080015
System BIOS Date 05/18/09

Is your beta bios better than that bios ? or newer if so could you email in trust it to me :D
and anything i should know about the bios ect..

cheers.

Also mate, what ever setting i choose or change i cant select 20x200, the system wont boot up and reverts to defaults press F1 ect... but 21x200 works lol

the error on the LCD screen on the motherboard reads 09

but if i select 20x173, the board will boot, anything past that like 20x174 wont boot.

do you have any idea why that is happing, i have the latest bios ect i think lol

if my cpu was defective ect it wouldnt work at all, in the bios it also states my cpu is unlocked.

i will get the info for you the next free night i get

i am pretty busy at work at the moment - as soon as i get a few mins - i will post up pics of my settings

yeah rjkoneill nice promo :D

ok mate blades arrived :D dam there pritty slick :P

so i have same cpu/mobo/ddr, now all i need is your settings for 4.2 :)

i have managed to get 4.0 stable pritty easy with 1.3v with HT on now all i need is 4.2 one :)

i know 4.0 one is stable becuse i run intel burn test v2.1 with 16 threads and maximum memory for 30 passes and no errors or anything... though maximum temps where 79c
im not sure i have the room for 4.2 :/ but we shall see

i also noticed my temp on the mobo said 75c when stressing though i think this is wrong cause when i touch it its just warm LOL

rjkoneill is very good at this overclocking, managed to get mine right upto 4.2 if I want to as all my case fans are on the high setting due to the amount of heat, at the moment im on 4.1, will probably go the bit extra and have the full 4.2 levels, but wont be going any further than that, even if I wanted to because I dont want to risk the high heat levels

i am looking at a i7 950 when they come in

hoping its 23 multi mixed with a 200 BCLK should give me 4.6GHz for 24/7 use

and my boards max 222 BCLK should let me hit 5.1GHz :D

saves me dropping a lot of boys on a classified for a possible lower max BCLK

i will do an overclocking thread similar to this one when it arrives

I bet the new i7 950's will be very expensive though, not many people will be able to afford one, because it will probably come in at at least £600-£650, in between the cost of an i7 940 @ i7 965

Not as cheap as the i7 920 D0 stepping that everyone is now used to, and overclocking them to around the 4.0 level, or 4.2 if you got good case cooling fans. The price will put a lot of people off tbh
