Overclocking at School.

lol i used to do this as a student, now i actually work at the college as IT support....

now i appreciate how much hassle students can cause... lil ****s

kinda pain in ass when its one of the largest networks in the UK aswell....

even had one student break our locks, nick all the components, left the empty base unit open on its side and walked out!!! the cheek!

i know the feeling, kids with computers are a big nono,

luckily we are good and have passworded it all :D

kids have minimum access,

i keep tempting to overclock my new staff comp when we get the 2007 ones in :D 205 new core 2duo 6600 pcs :D

40 of them Q6700 and 4 GB ram and X-Fi Fatalities :D (thats what a media grant does for ya) :D

For some reason I have this morbid horror of overclocking a work PC. Oh wait! It's my livelihood - that would be why ;)

Well mine is a.. wait for it.... Dell, so no overclocking for me. Not that I would anyway tbh. Stability is much more important at work than a few extra fps.

Self respect also has no meaning to you?Wait till you are handing over tax money each week to pay for a already over-stretched school system.Guess it won't be quite so funny then.

Flog the little B******* i say

Rant Over :D

Don't schools usually have a contracted supplier?

HP supplies our school, all the computers, old 65nm pentium 4's to the core2duo machines have just basic options in the bios and no overclocking features.

I would be surprised if at your place they were all custom built with decent overclocking mainboards that's for sure.

Post pics/evidence or i call bs.

'amagad i waz in class an i got t3h pcz and overclockzd it to 50ghz lolz and it was dead unstablez then i got caught and nailed by t3h prinicpal but i said 'l00k i are a leet ov0rclock0r i are have t3h excuse'

Some of the comparisons in here are ridiculous! Stealing things? Maxing out your parent's credit cards? He overclocked a CPU, for chrissakes. It's not crime of the century. It can always just be set back to 3Ghz.

Just read this thread, seams like a few people have gone a bit overboard too!

When I was at school it was very tempting to mess with their computers as well I must admit, I'm not sure you could overclock Acorns or 386's but I vaguely remember some detentions for 'hacking' into a few peoples user accounts (if you can call it hacking as I think the security in those days was fairly pathetic) on the Acorns, then getting banned from the library for using one of their terminals to gain access to the schools management network!

But I went to uni, kinda studied a bit, got a degree, wrote some software, started a business which 2 years later is now turning over 1/4 mil or so. I guess I turned out ok!

No we have a budget, and we get what ever is best suited for our school,

Most companys do a 3 year part replacement, that is vital to most school, but generally they can get there comps from where ever they want.

I think you need to re-read the thread, the comparisons to stealing stuff were

a) In response to someone else stealing a sound card

And

b) Also trying to highlight how moronic the statement

“The main reason I did was just to highlight the fact some School's should take more precautions when it comes to there IT equipment.”

Which essentially suggests “it’s ok to mess with security, because it learns people to lock their stuff up better”

No one is equating overclocking to baby murder.

If you want to overclock, overclock your own stuff not the tax payers.

well said,

other thing is with overclocking a school comp, you could perm damage it, you 'could' ruin someones life as they can't get on a comp of something.
