Overheating Issue

Good! You can use any cooler you want.

The Silver Arrow SB-E Extreme is £53.99 It comes with TY-143 2500rpm fans which add about 8c more cooling when ran at full speed of 2500rpm at 45dba. But if you keep it below 1300rpm it's the same noise level as normal SA SB-E at 25dba. Fans are PWM

I know it's a big list.. and these are only the best quickly off the top of my weak mind. I'm sure I've missed a few. Honestly most are all about the same cooling. It's more you liking one more than another.

Wow. Thanks for the list. Will go through it properly. My only issue is now how to fit it. I presume I can leave the 120mm fan on the back of the case and just remove cooler and radiator?

Yes you can.
Do you mean the fan is on the outside of your case?
If it is on the outside you could move it to the inside. ;)

You can proberbly just unscrew it from the rad and leave it on your case, if its a normal 3 pin or PWM fan connector just plug the cable into a system fan header on your mobo.

While your looking at reviews look at how many problems they've been having. I've been over this several times on here but here we go again:
Post #28 documents 4 failures in March alone. M00GLEYS has had 3x H100i failures post #53

If you want long term dependability get an air cooler.

Ok. Think I will. How much knowledge do I need to replace the cooler I have at the moment then to an air cooler. I.e. will I have to change everything including back plate, etc?

Also the air coolers look huge on motherboards! Haha. Could you recommend me one as I am baffled by the links you gave me as to which one to get. Mainly looking for easy to assemble/fit, reliability and affectiveness.

Thank you.

Not sure how your present cooler is mounted but will guess it has a back plate so yes you will probably have to change it. Air coolers start at about the same size as your radiator and fan are.

Below list is only a sample of twin tower coolers.. and are the biggest. The biggest single towers are as big but not as thick front to back.
Twin Tower size comparison (Width x Depth x Height looking from front of case with motherboard laying flat)
K2 . . . . . .= . . . . 8x 6mm pipes 140x128x158mm 146x154x160mm w/ 120mm & 140mm PWM fans 43.2mm*
D14 . . . . .= . . . . 6x 6mm pipes 140x130x160mm 140x158x160mm w/ only 2011 has PWM fans 44mm*
TC14 . . . . .= . . . 5x 8mm pipes 140x134x160mm 140x159x171mm w/fans, PWM adaptor included 40-45mm*
Silver Arrow . = . . 4x 8mm pipes 147x123x163mm 151x149x168mm w/Fans 40.87mm*
SA SB-E . . . .= . . 8x 6mm pipes 155x105x164mm 170x130x170mm w/ 140mm & 150mm PWM fans 31.9/39/46mm**
SA SB-E Extreme , 8x 6mm pipes 155x105x164mm 155x130x165mm w/fans Reason it's smaller is 140mm fan vs 150mm fan.
HE01 . . . . .= . . . 6x 6mm pipes 140x119c160mm w/ 140x38mm PWM fan
Dark Rock Pro . = . 7x 6mm pipes 133x124x166mm 133x149x166mm w/ 120mm & 135mm PWM fans
*cooler base to bottom fin. (add 8mm for motherboard to bottom fin.)
**fins are at 3 different levels

You will have to do a little work changing over. Setup your trust account and drop me a message.

The argument between H80i seems to b endless. Lol. I just want a cool machine

Trust account:confused:

Will I still be able to monitor CPU temperature the same way I can do now via BIOS with air cooled unit?

Again, can you recommend a particular unit?

I recommended all of the coolers I gave you links to. All will do what you want. You need to look at them and ask specific questions about whichever you think you might like. I'm willing to help you by giving you all the information and assistance I can. But it is your decision and you need to look and understand what you are getting. I will not think for you.

My primary systems have a Phanteks TX14PE with TY-143 fans (but you pick your own color) and Silver Arrow SB-E Extreme. I like Phanteks mount better than Thermalright mount only because the SA SB-E mount has small screws instead of knurled knob screws. NH-D14 has nice mount too but no PWM fans. My wife has a little Zaward Vapor 120 on her Athlon II X4 620 @ 3.55GHz.. Her system will soon be in a new case with a Thermalright AXP-100 on it. I have used Cogage Arrow (3 years old), Theralright Ultra 120A (from 2006 and still going strong), HR-02, NH-U12P, and others. All have been good coolers and are still in use.

Ok I have either done the tust thing or it hasn't worked. Time to research!

doyll, your going to hate me. I am sliding more towards the H80i now. The main thing that has put me off with the air coolers is the damn size of them! It just takes up too much room! From what I can tell, the reliability seems Ok.

LOL You do what you want. I'm not really bothered. I am also not bothered with potential H2O problems like you've already experienced only 17 months from new. :(
I assume you read the links to others with H80i and other H2O issues that keep happening as I suggested in post #46.
And if I see you posting up with more H2O cooler problems I will tell you I warned you :D

Really they are not taking up much more room than H80i, hoses & pump;
120x153x88 for radiator & fans plus 2x 14mm hoses and pump/waterblock.. which take up room too,
146x154x160mm for twin towers with 2 fans all in,
130x124x159mm for Megahalems with 2 fans all in,
155x103x170mm for Archon SB-E X2 with 2 fans.

As for taking up so much room, well... what are you going to do with that room anyway??? Think of it as being used space instead of wasted space. :D Not like you can use it for something else.. ;)

Thanks for all your help, but think I will take the risk one more time with the H80i.
