Overview: OCUK 4GHz Bundle!

Ok, bundle arrived yesterday, got this all set up working with no problems ... so far only had time to run a short orthos prime test (45 mins) but all seems stable so far.

Slight temp issue though, 2 of the cores are hitting about 94c at times on prime. Im not sure if the problem is the fan on the Fenrir, it only seems to be running at 1280rpm max according to everest, but is ment to run up to 2200rpm.

Any ideas how I can speed up the fan??

My overclock failed on first boot, system reset itself 3 times and then reverted back to default settings for me (very clever). :( I don't think a overclock was a great idea with 12GB's. Might try myself one rainy day after having a read and see.

This in no way represents the product on sale from overclockers.

i cant see why this has happened

your bundle was primed for over 14 hours

if you post up the issue in RMA/tech queries on the customer support section then i will help you out further

as for the poster with the high temp problems

those temperatures are way to high
i would reseat the cooler and use a little more thermal paste to fill the gaps at the contact plate of the fenrir

I reccomend a 650w corsair or better as the minimum

Hi rjkoneil - i have (just) bought an i7 920 and Gigabyte UD5 from OCuK, and whilst its not the bundle under discussion, you have got me a little worried about power requirements... The PC will include a GTX280, 3 HDDs, plus the usual compliment of fans/disc drives. I currently have a 650 W BeQuiet PSU thats fine for my current PC - will this be sufficient for i7, or should i be looking at beefier PSU?

Slightly off topic - i remeber you recommending the OCZ Blade kit in your build log. Is it worth waiting for these to come back into stock, or is there another memory kit you could recommend? Cheers, apologies is this is in the wrong thread, feel free to delete if necessary.

Hi, Mine arrived today and I've just finished installing the board etc into the PC. I'm using an Enermax Galaxy 800w PSU with 2 x 3870x2's and 2 150gb Raptor x's and 2 x 500 gb WD HDD's.

Systme booted ok first time and then did some driver upgrades. However I noticed that it is saying its running at 3.82 Ghz. Its been a while, a long week and I'm knackered, what am I missing? wheres the 4Ghz?

It the new Turbo thingie, as soon as you start putting load on the CPU it will up the multi by 1x and hit that magic 4Ghz.

Ok so just so I can keep an eye on things, whats the max safe core temp on this CPU then ?

Oh and indeed it does hit 4011 mhz :D

I'll give it a day or so to settle then reseat if neccessary.

It feels like its on ok.

Oh btw, is there a way of controlling CPU Heatsink fan speed from within windows? Or do you just change the Bios settings? if so what to ?

Thanks :D

This should be running at 3.8 right, unless under load and then it would be 4, my multiplier seems to be jumping around all over the place from x6 to x21,

nvm disabled speedstep, altho it now seems to be at 4Ghz 24/7 with the x21 turbo multi.

My clock speeds seem to be all over the place too...

Using win7 it would idle at about 2.4ghz... then upto 4 under load..

In xp, its idling about 3.1 - 3.4 then upto 4 under load.. should it not be stable at 3.8 which is its set clock spped, then peak at 4...???
