Overview: OCUK 4GHz Bundle!

Yeah i still haven't figured out how to get it to run at 3.8, also had the overclock fail on first boot this morning, same symptoms as trifid, it however doesnt wipe the overclock settings it seems to use the backup bios until you enter the bios and confirm the failed overclock, you can then just re save the original settings, not sure why it failed since it blends for hours no problem.

Hoping rjkoneill pops in here sometime, maybe he can shed some light on how to get it to run at 3.8/4

And your running a Corsair HX1000W with this kit ?

Hi Targy

the best thing to do is post in the customer service technical support forum and i will try to help you out

all the 4ghz bundles get a lot of time stress testing so it worries me when customers are having issues

for everyone having high temperature issues, - the cooler should keep the cpu temp at around 80'c under prolonged load [well within the thermal limit of any i7 chip]

if you are getting temperatures higher than that try reseating your fenrir

as the contact plate is not flat - you need to use enough thermal compound to fill the gaps where the heatpipes are

Quick question on the Fenrir which got asked earlier as well - Should the cpu fan spin up under load? Mine stays the same at all times.

have you got it in the pwm header?

and have you had it under constant load?

when its under load for a bit it tends to spin up

probably due to a stock shortage

we have to swap items with an equivalent or better [price wise]

imo the noctua is the more desirable cooler

make sure you get a nice thin layer of TIM for a good mount and you should see some great results

wow, 80C, not sure i'd be comfortable with that, wouldn't even push previous ones over 70C and they have simalar thermal limit.

They are the thermal limit afterall, Intel do certify their chips to run at the limit for years. They see no issue with the temperatures we are pushing either. :)

To the guys who are having the clock speeds jumping around with the multi it is just speedstep to keep the system using as little power and output as little heat as possible unless it is required. Why have the system sat there eating power and putting out heat unless it needs to be.

Running on a 0.79% failure rate on this bundle now making it have a failure rate lower than the components used to make it, you can thank Rich's testing for that. :D

And thats fine I just wondered why you had shipped a more expensive HSF, not that I was complaining :D, I think I need to redo the TIM on the CPU as that might be the reson for the higher temps....

Thanks for clearing up all my queries...

Seeing such hi temps takes a bit of getting used to.. Im coming from a dual core amd background and always tried to keep my temps well in the 40s and low 50s....

As pointed out 80c is reached under prolonged stress, and is not likely to be encountered during normal useage.. Although the hot days we have just had certainly didnt help... I saw my temps drop 5c on the cooler days...

Im loving this bundle, great value, even if I never will utilise the true potential of the i7..

Thanks to all ot OCers uk.. especially after addressing a few delivery issues I had...

Think Ive managed to talk a mate into the bundle too, damn, I wish you guys had a referral program!! lol!!!

no problem - did you recieve your tube of arctic silver with the bundle or are you using the noctua supplied TIM

if you didnt get your arctic silver - hit me up in the customer support/technical forum and i will get one to you - its much better than the noctua stuff

good to see things sorted with your bundle now DrMekon
i know there were a few issues when you first recieved the bundle - glad that it has all been cleared up for you now

Hi I did indeed get the Artic Silver with the order :D

I suspect my Idea of thin film is a littl ethicker than yours :D I'll redo it at the weekend when I get time.

Also I suspect the shiney silver film on the bottom of the HSF was the Nocta tim then and not a leveling plate............ Opps, that might be the cause of the higher temps, 2 layers of tim :D Doh!!!

rjkoneill,

will a corsair HX620W be powerful enough to run this bundle with 8 hard drives, one optical drive, a few usb devices and a decent graphics card like the 4870X2 or a high end Nvidia card? If not, which quiet PSU would you recommend?

Haven't read the whole thread but this worried me.

I have the 775 variant of the Noctua, and it doesn't have TIM pre-applied. I don't wish to insult your intelligence, but I think there was a sheet of plastic on the base of my Noctua to prevent it from getting scraped/dusty in transit.

RJK, can you tell me if it's the same for the LGA1366 ones? If so, Dashik may have a bit of plastic where only his Arctic Silver should be....

best case scenario, I am mistaken. Worst case scenario you find out why yoru temps are a bit skewiff.... ;)
Besides, gives you an excuse to re-apply the AS5 a bit thinner. You really don't need much - spread it out using the heatsink and make sure it's an even, thin covering.

Fenrir is a different kettle of carp, I'm looking forward to sticking my finger in a plastic bag to fill in the heatpipe gaps, I don't think!

i dont know - maybe

i would personally look at a 750w+ corsair/bequiet/coolermaster/seasonic

with those hard drives it could be a problem

there is no film iirc

worst case scenario is that you re apply the TIM and clean the contact plate and IHS of the chip properly to prepare it

Ta, I checked the instructions for the Noctua and found no warning saying 'remove this before continuing' etc so you're probably right!

[didn't get round to putting the fenrir in either, lazyitis attack....]
