Overwatch 2 is Official

Left someone's stream running in the background yesterday (4 hours) and managed to get in and installed yesterday, but haven't played it yet. I'll have a go once I get home. A bit skeptical still of dropping down to 5 players per team, especially as I generally played tanks, but will see how it goes.

I still really enjoy Overwatch and play OW1 every other day. The core gameplay is still fun for me, and I really don't understand the constant whining and expectation nowadays of constant, free updates. I grew up with games like CS:S, Wolfenstein ET, MOHAA, CoD 1/2/UO and the like. Did we get constant updates? New weapons? New maps? Outside of community mods, not really. And you're not paying a subscription, so don't understand why people nowadays "expect" constant updates, like it doesn't take huge resource to model, code, animate, test, balance and all the rest of it.

@Smeghead I'm a tank player myself and tank in OW 2 is way more fun for me personally. They are way more brawlly amd play faster, especially Rein now you can cancel his charge and has 2 firestrikes and the doomfist changes are great. Orisa is way too strong at the moment though but so much more fun to play than plonk down shield, shoot, fortify, shoot, plonk down shield, repeat.

Also as a long suffering tank main the removal of all stuns is amazing.

Feel bad for support players at the moment as they seem to get deleted quite easy and have bo real changes or new characters.

It’s been tough to tell but there is some potential. Tanks are definitely more brawl focused but these quick play games can feel like death match, so I’ll reserve final judgement for later.

Orisa is definitely the strongest tank. I don’t necessarily think she’s too overtuned, but the other tanks could use some tweaks.

Il be honest it doesnt feel or play hugely different to me then again im only back playing OW1 a week or so but its still different probably in a good way.
All of the changes could have been done in a patch tbh but still a great game.

Intrigued by this, I loved the premise of OW but it wasn't rewarding to play solo queue. Deffo interested to see what PVE gameplay brings, butr the balance changes to aid a single player having more impact could make it a more welcoming experience.

Played a couple more OW2 games and they’re feeling better. Obviously still hit and miss with the varying skills levels but it’s been fun.

Decided to work in an OW1 game and it felt very flat in terms of audio and visual, so at least from that perspective, OW2 has improved a lot.

I'm a tank player 99% of the time and I was worried about the 5v5 and losing a tank partner but after playing both ow2 and ow1 (comp) tonight, I am converted to 5v5. Much faster gameplay, opportunities to make bigs plays and most of all I'm not just standing there holding up a shield for whingy dps players because they have no concept of positioning, cover or making space.

Supports are all broken, literally impossible to stay alive now unless you zip around as lucio.
Pro players who main mercy amongst other healers saying its pointless to heal now, lots of threads on reddit.

DPS are way too overpowered and supports are relatively nerfed in comparison. 5v5 makes this way too DPS and individual focused and the whole game seems less about teamwork. Played a few games of it with different characters and outside a few characters you might as well not bother. If you don't play as certain characters it feels more of chore. I really wish they were not forcing the OW2 update onto existing OW1 owners. I have been playing this for years now - if this is how the PvP part is going to be,I won't be bothering with the game anymore.

I'm not finding this tbh, but maybe it's just because I play at a low level? I play mainly Ana with a bit of Brig thrown in now and then and now having self heal I find it's quite hard for them to kill me...

Tried a few different support characters and some of the others just to see the changes. Even when I played as DPS - the supports are just easier to take out now and I could see the same with supports on our side. Also preferred 6v6 instead of 5v5,but like with the Diablo series Blizzard keeps pairing down the concurrent player count in games(it was 8 in D2 and 4 in D3) because it cuts down server side load of each instance.

Played it over the last few days and it doesn't do it for me. I will try the other BETAs if they are made available and see how it goes. But once the next game comes out, even OW1 gets permanently changed. In the end I can see they are trying to make this more of a fast paced FPS game, with more focus on individuality which probably works for some. The problem is there are other games like that which I would rather play if I wanted that.

This is my fear. Similar happened when they changed quickplay for the second time - I much prefer quickplay classic than being forced to pick and stick to a role in the game. Though it is frustrating when you end up with 5 dps - though that just makes me practice my pistol shots as mercy so

"Mercy why aren't you healing" "Mercy you're so bad, heal"
my response
"If you're playing dps and practicing not killing stuff, i don't see why I can play heal and practice on the not healing bit"

Maybe they'll leave 6v6 in as an arcade mode, but I would imagine if they do it'll be the current form of QP and not QPC :(

Also with one less tank, the healers are more exposed and because its much faster, more individualistic gameplay people are just running about going Pew!Pew!Pew! The healers need to go Pew! Pew! Pew! too which means you spend less time healing(unless you are Lucio I suppose).

Then start moaning because the healer isn't doing enough healing when people can't be in 5 different places at the same time. If anything it means you need to be closer as a group IMHO in certain maps.

Yea I heard a fair few mixed opinions on 5v5, but in the end I didn't even try the beta simply because I CBA to.

I just feel they have made 5v5 to cut back on server load just like they went from 8 players to 4 players with Diablo 3. They are just trying to spin it for "gameplay" reasons.

At this point looking at how many BETAS I have played in the past, where the final game was not much different I am not too optimistic about where this is all heading. Maybe PvE will save it - but the issue is Blizzard charges a decent amount for games,so not sure if that is enough for me to bother buying the game when it is released in its full form. I was thinking of getting Diablo 4 on release but I think I might wait a while afterwards to see how it actually plays.

PvE was what I was really interested in with OW2 - the games I like the most are generally PvE (vermintide 2, WarZ pve, Deep Rock). Though I would have liked a story simply because I think they could do an interesting one. However OW2 turns out, hopefully i'll still enjoy it, because as you pointed out - we won't have a choice to fire up 'OW1' to play instead since it'll be gone.

Fingers crossed
