Overwatch

You rank up a lot for a win now :)

Think I went up 50 ranks or so in one game.

I think my rank went up a similar amount after my first non-placement game, which was a win. But as I play more and more games, I'm gaining less from wins and losing less from defeats. As though my rank is converging to a particular number - around the high 2200s / low 2300s.

I am feeling the same. It's almost like quickplay in the way I get runs of losses followed by victories. It's not going to level me forward though. I lost a bit more than I should because I joined what can only be described as a fail group. 3 people, 1 both were completely out of their depth and one rage quit, midway through. It lost me a fair few points, but other than that I don't see how I can make much progress.

This is a screenshot from a loss. I am pushing myself really hard to get the team moving, but I feel far too often I am carrying, in that I am either ranked too low, but too reliant on a successful team to increase. Or there a lot of people that got placed too high and are completely out of their depth.

As I got my shadowplay working again (had an issue where video's were artefacting), I decided to test it out. This performance is not on the level of the screenshot above, but it's a pretty good run.

This team wasn't too bad. The team we were against was more like what I seem to get teamed up with, quite a lot. They made it very easy for me to control the area.

2661 platinum

19 gold medals in 10 games, so did pretty well in all of them. Not a bad placement, shouldn't be too hard to get back to diamond.

That's how it should be. Ranks aren't like levels. You shouldn't just go up in rank constantly. What would be the point? Everyone would just go up and up and it wouldn't mean anything. You will go up in rank when you are good enough to carry people at your current rank.

If you rank up, despite win or loss (depending on personal performance for each role). You can only move up to a point where you are no longer able to perform and will start dropping down. It's how rankings of all kinds are supposed to work. You find your level. I don't want to be in games where most of the players are absolutely shocking. I shouldn't have to sit through it and unless I get an actual proper group of people who I synergies well with, it's never going to allow me to rank up.

There is little to no teamwork in solo queue games because people have different styles and tempo and by the time you start to get used to one. Then you are on to a new game and have to get used to it all over again (that's not even accounting for the myriad of players, who seemingly won a raffle to get to the rank they are).

If they want it so to actually move in the rankings, you have to be in a group, then maybe they should make having a group mandatory for competitive. I can't find a core group of players who are on the same time as me to actually get anything going. I am lumbered with it, as many other people I am sure of it.

There is some improvements on quickplay with regards to teamwork, but with no sense of progression. It will make this season a very frustrating affair.

I personally only soloq and had no problem getting to rank 65 (diamond) last season. I'm certain I will hit diamond again this season playing only soloq. You don't need a premade to rank up.

I think the game hates me now. It keeps putting me into match after match after match where we just get roflstomped over and over again.

Is skill rating based on your individual performance in season 2 like in placement or is it still only based on win/loss and so heavily dependant on what teams you draw?

I think it's both. If you win, you will gain some rank. If you lose, you will lose some rank. I think the game uses your individual performance to calculate how much it changes though.

Gold 2111 for me

totally loving the new mercy - heals so fast - I'm able to get ulti up super fast now. Also the fact she doesn't stand still when dealing ulti makes a big difference - you can almost suicide yourself to ressy 3 or 4 players in a big fight by flying into it.

Had so many 3 and 4 man ressy's today. Up to 2300 now

Starting the drop now, already down to 2221 from placing 2371 - don't think I've won hardly any games but not really sure what I could do better - quite often getting 4 golds, not dying much, switching when appropriate :( Maybe an upswing is coming eventually
