Overwatch

I should be on later. Shame the comp season has ended, although I wouldn't mind some practise of lesser used characters in comp situation, while no-ones SR is at risk...

just play comp - just counts for nothing. Off season etc.

Sorry I missed the message to join up - happy to do so if around later

There is actually an Overwatch voice channel, down nearer the bottom. Tbh, I don't often remember to sit in it.

AndyCr15#2763 if anyone doesn't currently have me.

Not that impressed with the LFG feature and season 11 so far... it's nice being able to join a team and know that you've got your role and the others generally have theirs, so you don't end up on a team with 4 support mains or something... but it still doesn't address the main problem with the game - the matchmaker is still pure garbage...

It might even be worse as now that everybody is in 6-stacks it has harder time forcing the wins/losses that it decides are necessary, so the matches are one-sided to the point of ridiculousness now more than ever... Every team I've played with so far have been positive, with the right attitude, no toxicity, communicating, grouping up etc. which is good and all... but you can still tell which team is going to win the match after 1 or 2 teamfights

I'm not sure it decides that you're supposed to lose, more that it puts you against a team of "stronger" players, you can still win!

There's such a huge player base that the match maker is never going to be able to constantly get the utopia of games you're looking for. Only way to do that is have a regular six-stack, and get better together, until you're playing the OWL.

Maybe I'm just at an awkward rank or something then because for me it honestly feels like the majority of games one team had absolutely zero chance... (for instance the amount of games where one of the teams can't even leave their spawn the whole match)

Edit: of course it'll never be perfect, but that's true of lots of other competitive games and they manage to do a bit better than this

Yeah, I think it's you. I've had maybe 20 comps with the new LFG and I would say only 1 was a walk over, by the opposition. I've had a few overtimes and others have generally been close that could have gone either way.

I came out at 1950, which 65 below where I finished last season.... which is generally lower than I expect, but the main thing for me is they've all be pretty good games and things are generally less toxic as people are playing chars they want to play. Only had one bad game, 3 heals, me as DPS and two tanks. Everyone has a different idea of what I should do. Take high ground, stick with pack, flank... basically no-one was happy with me. I did express my annoyance with them all giving me different instructions!

I haven't played comp for a while admittedly, but I honestly can't remember the time either my team or the opposition was pinned into their spawn (and I've played with Andy playing as Soldier :D).

Overwatch is quite unique as there isn't another FPS which is as popular, with as big of a hero pool, that requires good mechanical skill, as well as good game sense. When you add the human element to all of that, all the data they need to log (ignoring peoples skill fluctuation between games, not all players play as well in all their games), then they're always going to be fighting an uphill battle. Unless we're talking low bronze (where everyone is pretty bad), or high GM/T500 (where everyone is good). I think you're expecting too much of the matchmaker.

Like I said; it won't ever be perfect, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect it could be better than it is... to be honest even just grabbing another team with the same average SR at random would probably result in more consistently close games than whatever it's doing at the moment... Because you're right - being able to factor in all of those things isn't easy, and trying to do so results in a system that is doing a terrible job...

Random matchups, drop the adaptive SR stuff (so people don't win 3 or 4 games and then have all of that SR wiped by a single loss) and reset people's MMR each season instead of just having pointless placements... (of course they will never do that as it would kill people's reason to buy accounts again and again)

Likewise with Andy's experience so far the LFG has been good and so far 80/90% of the games have felt like a good win, working hard comms etc - I honestly can't think of a single wlakover/dominant win/lose so far.

Is there a new season again now? I might play a bit more this season, but I think I'm past the point of taking it all that seriously.

How many hours do you generally plough into each season?

Seems like all the trolls are back out ready for the start of season 4 games out of 7 with leavers now.

only problem with the new LFG is when you have a DPS thats truly awful no one can switch into the DPS role to save the day.

2378SR after placements

Nice :) I think I was about 2450 or something, same as every time...

I tend to just play a bit when I want something to play a quick match or two, and when nobody else I play with is around to play something better... So not sure off the top of my head... maybe a couple hundred games across a whole season?

Well at least that hasn't been a problem for me (so far) as due to the above mentioned one-sidedness of the games I've had, it doesn't seem to matter too much - if the matchmaker has me on a win then so long as our dps don't actively try to throw that's all they need to do (and likewise if it's an MM lose game every one of our DPS could play the absolute game of their lives and we'll still get crushed)

I spend most of my time in QP or Arcade, so you are welcome to join if you don't want to take it seriously... not that comp SR has great meaning in life to get stressed about :)
