Overwatch

Good fun last night, Musty and I carried imginy out of silver :D :p I think I had a 5 or 6 game winning streak, and gained over 100 SR... four more sessions and I'm in plat :D

(Did we lose any? Felt like we might have lost one, but I might be getting confused by the Lunar map that they didn't want to win, despite our team being really poor for that one and only two of us on comms... I think I decided we'd already lost, and then somehow we won!)

A team of three seems to be a sweet spot for comp (though happy to include others)... we can swing the match by working together, but we rarely get matched against a proper 6 stack. To be honest, we aren't even doing any special co-ordination other than pushing together when called and focusing particular targets that are low... it is that simple in gold, and it amazes me that some players can't co-ordinate.

Yeah you joined at the right time last night for sr jump. Musty was all warmed up and it was something like 6 win streak (I went up 130sr)

I think we let musty have a game of ffa to warm up phara first then we can go straight on win streak if you guys are on tonight.

I couldn't handle that last game we had on lunar. It's bad enough getting rolled on first point but when half your team then runs off and dies midway to second instead of just regrouping.

People should all know if the fight is lost just die quickly and regroup on 2nd.

Be careful lads... Pharah is a great pick up to a certain point and then you hit the level at which hitscan players are too consistent (at least in my experience as a pretty good Pharah)... for me that happens at about 2700

We're just having fun where we are... you wouldn't believe last night, teams that didn't pick a hitscan for the whole match against Pharah, 4/5 DPS teams, and the last one on Lunar we basically gifted them the second point, but they pulled back off the point when they started losing heroes even when we only had one person left. I was playing Ana for a couple of matches (which we still won), and I don't even pick Ana in quick play... we were on a roll!

Last night would have been so painful in solo queue!!!

Something I found interesting in one match, for defence I was Ana, then in attack I swapped to Rein and the Rein swapped to Ana, and one of the DPS guys commented on the switch and how different the roles are... he failed to appreciate that tank and healer players tend to be the ones who flex, almost irrelevant of your main... typical DPS main!

Yeah phara is great in low gold.

The funniest thing about it is you get 5 people on your team blaming the dps guy for not killing phara.

From my perspective as a high rank player messing about in gold it's just hilarious to me that most of the players think the best counter to phara is to start bitching about how bad the dps is. For example moira, rein, zarya sit there in chat going "ffs sake dps kill phara she destoying us" and "omg soldier you havent killed phara once". It's obvious to me typing in chat is not going to kill the phara. If that rein, zarya, moira suddenly switched to dva, monkey, zen then phara would be dead in couple of seconds but they don't realise that switching to counter is what's needed they just keep typing away in chat box.

Musty main goal is to get to plat this season, I think his phara is good enough to get us there. Where we go from there not sure we will have to see how well his dps skills stand up when we get there.

Yep, exactly... Pharah is basically the reason I manage to stay in Plat these days, I can happily climb with her if I drop a bit... it's a shame that she's so hard to play at higher ranks (not impossible, but it's a big risk that you end up being useless so I'll nearly always switch off unless their team completely ignore me)

Yeah for the first few seasons old sym and old torb were always my free ticket into plat. Anytime I dropped down to gold a well placed turret or tele was enough for easy climb but could not get passed plat with them.

I could never get out of plat until I switched to healer main. Once you have mastered playing healer it's so easy to climb out of plat just find a dps smurf pocket them then invite to group and go duo for 10 win streak.

I don't expect to be DPS'ing one i hit Plat if I am honest.

At least not without a lot of work my end, which I don't have the time to commit to.

I think (if I ever get there) once in plat i might try playing support a little again.

I don't think i have the constant game sense to be DPS maiming any rank other than gold. After playing some games last season with Ginny at a higher rank (higher plat) I know I wouldn't last long.

Personally I play tank once I get to 2700ish, because provided I have some dps/supports who I can work with I can do really well on any of the tanks (until recently I would have added "except Hammond" but I've been practising him and am comfortable on him as well now)

Yeah there is a big skill jump for dps at high plat. Suddenly to go any higher you need to be able to solo kill half the team every fight.

It becomes much less of a team effort and more about dps being able to solo kill.

A thing I'm noticing more of in QP, people in my team take so long to pick a hero, that the match has already started by the time they pick. Meanwhile, we're fighting 5v6. Sometimes they just get kicked by the afk timer. What's going on here? Why queue up for a game if you're not ready to start?

Zarya may be a good choice for you based on performances that I've seen.

QP and arcade are often a mystery... all the rules are thrown out the window, teams of 6 dps are considered legit, and mystery heroes is often played like FFA rather than two teams. A couple of months ago I was in a mystery heroes game on Route 66 and I was making call outs, and at the end someone on our team thanked me and said he'd never experienced that before in mystery... I mean, wtf, it's basic game play in my books whatever mode you are in?

Joelk2 - Totally fine mate. I think given my early games performance it was needed!

Imginy and I had a good climb last night, then a nice fast drop again.

Bloody game. Maybe we need to learn to quit while we are ahead....

I didn't seem to bring the good fortune last night the same as the previous night. We played a few more matches after you left, won some and lost some. I finished the evening pretty much exactly where I started it. I found the matches a real mixed bag playing Rein... a couple of matches felt really cohesive and in control, but in others it felt like chaos with little healing and getting focused no matter where I positioned.

Interestingly, maybe half the matches in which the other team had a Reaper, so not a 100% pick rate despite being "meta", but the ones that did gave us a headache.

Had a nice run with joelk2 earlier with him on zarya, we had quite a few games and only lost one for a quick 100 points. Then went off for a bit and done the same with musty on phara, won quite a few and just lost 1 at the end.

This one made us laugh earlier, a few of their team went off that side in this match. listen for his ult lol
