Overwatch

Been interesting placements so far....

DPS - get hard carried and play like trash. 2W (in which I played ok) 3L. Placed 2698.

Tank - Play like a beast. W2 L2 D1, place 2730. about 150-200SR lower than where I usually hover.

Lets see where the Support placements end up.

Yeah there's loads of really poor people picking tanks, if you want to climb SR then queue as tank and pick Orisa or Rein, your team having a competent main tank is massive because the opposite team in a lot of cases won't.
Yea I'm going to give it a few days if I'm honest then push SR on my tank that way all the bad players will be low SR and I can push

Also played as reaper last night and I've never really played him 37kills 12/15k DMG went to get a team kill and our own mei ice walled me off so I couldn't kill them she did it every time I had death blossom :(

This is actually a really good point...

Start of the season everyone is going to want to do their 5 placements with each rank to lock in those comp points and try the system out... Once that's out of the way people will (probably) stick more to the role they like the most and people's SR on all roles will have settled a bit more. To me that means the best thing to do at the start of the season is first do your placements on your non-main roles (damage + support for me) - protect your main role until all the idiots are done

yea i more than likely won't do comp until Monday that way everyone has had the weekend to get their sigma fix out of the way and they should have all done their placements etc

I don't know why you're bothering waiting to do your placement matches. It's a beta season, season 18 starts on Sept 1st and the current ranking has no effect on your stats at all.

I did do some placements last night but I was on my one alt account... just did my tank ones and they went fine, 3W 1D 1L I think and came out about 2700... played quite a bit of Sigma having read up a bit more on how to play him and he seems pretty good; even in that short time I feel like I've gotten to grips with him more than I have with Hammond (the one other tank I don't feel confident on)... Will probably grind a bit of quickplay with on my main account over the weekend and then should be good to go with him in comp

Also really liking Zarya with the beam fix, good lord... I've always liked playing her but you really notice an improved ability to zap the pesky genji's and moiras now

Competitive is a bit weird at the minute. I've been high silver for the couple of seasons I have played, but the new role lock seems to put people into positions they have no idea how to play. Getting tanks who don't know how to go in and just stand back the entire time, DPS not knowing how to do damage, and support players not realising they need to heal! (Moira mainly). Guessing this is probably going to be similar everywhere at the minute, as there will be a lot of one trick players trying out the other roles for loot boxes etc.

That's just silver rank bud, nothing to do with role lock!

I think the ones that show up the most for me are the tanks..... Most people opt for generally support/damage in "pre"role lock.

So a lot of people will be focusing on them, and just getting 5 games done as a tank to get it "out of the way".

Finding good tanks will be hard I think in 2/2/2 lock. I like it so far, games are better generally, more balanced and a bit less moaning going on generally.

Yeah, I like it. This was often my argument/point about how teams could sometimes be unbalanced (if I could be bothered, I could probably go back through this thread and find a quote!) in that players will be different ability with different players and classes. Now we get to see this and the teams should be a little more stable.

Listen gents - Just putting it out there - I'm just going to say that I talk a lot during games trying to call out things, let people know whats going on. If anyone gets fed up with my chat - just say so. I'm no expert but just making simple calls sometimes makes the difference, hopefully!

Played with @AndyCr15 and a few others and we had a tank who was all over the show, diving in himself etc - I wasn't being critical, just trying to help him not go mad diving in solo etc. Telling him to stay with the team, help out the healers etc - Eventually he started to listen and played so much better that we won the game in the end.

I think in terms of callouts etc. then they are always welcome provided they A. Give useful information and B. Are clear and concise... I've had games in the past where a well-meaning random on my team has been making lots of calls but they don't end up being very helpful - the most obvious example is sometimes people just call out something like "Junkrat Junkrat Junkrat!!!!!" - I'm sure from their viewpoint they know what they mean but for me on tank I don't know if they mean "Junkrat is behind us watch out!"... "Junkrat is low someone dive him"... "Junkrat is out of position everyone focus him"... or something else... and in addition unless I can also see Junkrat or his grenades bouncing I may have no idea where he is... So calls more like "Junkrat behind back left" or "Junkrat out of position right side" are much more useful and I can't ever imagine a situation people would find them annoying...

The other one that happens a lot is when someone will call out something that's simply happening right in the middle of the team fight and everyone will already be aware of... e.g. "Dva bomb! Dva bomb!!!" well yeah, we can all hear the voiceline and see the big sparking mech about to explode... If they're our shield tank and their shield is on cooldown then "No shield!!!" is a much more helpful call... I guess a rule of thumb to follow could be "Am I expecting this call to enable one of my team-mates to actually do or react to something?" - if the answer is no then it's probably not a useful call

Does booyaka even have a mic????

Last night with musty, I said "reaper flanking, I got this"

Anyway congrats to Musty for getting his first platinum badge!
