Overwatch

Probably a stupid question, but as someone who's never really been a fan of FPS games, am I likely to like Overwatch?

Back in the day I did briefly play Quake 2, but it took a while before I could actually sit playing for more than about 5 minutes without feeling ill. I was eventually able to play for longer, but not until Quake 3 came out. I'm not sure why I could play 3 much longer than 2, but after playing Quake 3, Quake 2 wasn't as bad and I could play it for 30 - 60 mins without wanting to heave.

Very likely yes. It's quite accessible.

I'm not a huge FPS fan anymore myself compared to my younger years, my reactions just aren't the best anymore. But I'm really enjoying Overwatch as I take a support role normally and help the team out. I get a lot of satisfaction knowing I'm helping out in other ways besides trying to aim badly. :p

Thanks, I may have to give it a try. Shame there's no trial, although I'm sure Blizzard will have one eventually.

Played for 2-3 hours, wished I had purchased it sooner! Enjoying it despite me thinking it'd be too cartoony (could never get into TF2 but this I'm enjoying...)

I've bought it but not played it yet. I'm worried I won't like it BECAUSE I liked TF2 so much. I'm afriad I'll spend most of the time going "Oh look, they just stole that from TF2..."

When he's healing he's not shooting so what's the issue? You've basically made 2 players on their team redundant just by right clicking as 1 hero, which you can safely do from a distance. Your goal isn't to kill the bastion, it's to disrupt him, and symmerta is a perfect way of doing that so he has to either move or heal. Reinhardt can't heal so unless they have a mercy (At which point you just take 2 Symmertas) it's not an issue at all.

Taking 2 Symmetra's on attack specifically to temporarily disrupt a Bastion/Rein/Mercy combo when they can just move to a better spot seems more like counter picking yourself honestly. Not to mention all you do is charge up the healers ult faster.

Might work if your team is organized and can use the time Bastion is healing/moving to push but lets be realistic, that isn't gonna happen in most games. I'm thinking mostly the first point of Anubis here with that ridiculous choke point at the start. That spot is a nightmare to attack if your team just recklessly charges in over and over again...

Everything is Iterative, with that approach you couldn't enjoy anything past Pitfall/Mario/Alone in the Dark. :p

It depends how iterative.
Considering how bat**** crazy everyone is going over Overwatch I've very high expectations of it. So if it's too much like TF2 in terms of concepts and gameplay I'll be disappointed.

It is a great game, but I can't help but think they've not got a clue when it comes to matchmaking.

I had hoped competitive would level it out, but the last two days I've generally been on the receiving end of a whooping. Now, that could be because I'm rubbish, but it's supposed to assess me and put me in with players of the same ability as me. In the games we're all ranked similarly of course, but in the matches it's not worked out like that, so something is clearly wrong.

It's not even about winning or losing. I don't mind losing in a close fight, but the last couple of days I do seemed to have been teamed with a lot of idiots. :(

It's the teams of idiots... the difference isn't matchmaking skill it's working as a team vs. not working as a team... I'm in the same boat pretty much and there seems to be a bit of a divide - sub rank 50 the majority of randoms seem to be terrible, above rank 50 people are more likely to know that they need to work as a team...

Just came out of a very close match on Anubis which went the full 4 rounds back and forth, and then on the final round a guy on our team called out over the mic "yeah we've lost it, ****" and left with about 30 seconds to go... We managed to hold out and win 5 v 6 but then lost the coin-flip and got absolutely destroyed in sudden death - so annoying!!!

I find the points matchmaking awards to be very inconsistent. Just had a full 4 rounds very close then lost in sudden death which even there we lost on overtime with about 1% left to capture due to a very good mercy ult against us.

So it was perhaps the most balanced match I have ever had with both sides really well played and damn near equal rank and for my troubles I dropped an entire rank from rank 53 to 52.

In comparison have walked over teams that were higher rank and barely got a quarter level up....

King of the hill maps where bugged, not sure if they have fixed it yet. You could win several on them then lose 1 game on normal and it'd even out.

There's some stuff they need to fix like hitboxes, getting an arrow in the head from screens away is just not fun, especially when they don't even need to hit you to do it.

Just had similar. It started with our team 2 ranks lower and it said 'Underdog' with a big thumbs up, like it's a good thing. It was 1-1 when someone on our team left, even then we only lost the next two by fairly small amounts, but I dropped a whole level for it. Doesn't seem all that fair.
