P & O Ferries

Just seen the p&o cruises advert who understandably are in full damage control mode.

I wonder how much business they have lost over boycott idiots that can't use Google for 10 seconds.

Going proper hardcore with them on YouTube. Just about every ad is the P&O Cruises one.

Now the government are bringing in legislation forcing all ferry companies operating from UK ports to pay the national minimum wage.

It’s not really a win for the sacked staff, but I’m interested to see how P&O take it if they really are paying below the minimum wage. At least it will put them in a position whereby they might as well employ UK staff.

Or the bangladeshi workers will be millionaires when they get back home?

Na, they'll just register elsewhere and operate a vanity route. Remember capitalist society dictates operating in the best interests of the share holders, not human beings.

They have had years to close the loopholes and choose not to. Typical Tories only now there’s public outrage they choose to do something

If I was P&O I’d now just pull the plug and move out of the UK or dissolve the company. They claim to be losing money anyway so….

Did anyone do the old Portsmouth to Bilbao booze cruise when it was operational? Me and a few mates from work did it. It was a good laugh. I got so ****** that it was a miracle I didn’t end up somewhere in the bay of biscay

Will also be interesting to see if dfds and stenna are paying similar wages

Except that according to BBC news the union has said that if the 800 workers made redundant were to be re-employed by P & O then they should go back on their original salaries, can’t see P & O going for that.
So a Mexican stand-off by the look of things, I imagine that rather than lose face, Hebblethwaite would rather pay the foreign crews 5p per hour over minimum wage than swallow and take the sacked workers back.

I think the company is on its knees and will not last. The people should have more accountability when they ruin a large private company like this one.

This is already week two of their ships docked so no money moving. Imagine the amount of revenue lost after two weeks.

Sounds like the 800 folk sacked weren't doing their jobs - you telling me 2 ships are all of a sudden unseaworthy because 800 folk weren't logged in for 48 hours?
Isn't the reason that the new crew have not been able to demonstrate they are familiar with the ships and the saftety procedures?
