Paddlesports (Kayaking, Canoe, Stand-Up Paddle boards)

Got out. My first time since October. Was great to be out again.

If anything I felt steadier. Months of lots of running/ankle strengthening and weight loss must’ve had an impact.

Now back to wanting a longer board!

Good going! I haven't been out since August.

I think you accidently commented on my Strava run yesterday.

It's not as crazy as it sounds and is actually quite common. I just think mine is a little scaredy thing who's stupid. My wife was a dog hydro-therapist and tried to take him with her one day and he just clung to her shoulder!

Looks much fun, my dog is a scaredy thing too. When out kayaking i have to tie him to me.

My dogs have always been good on sup and seem to like it. One has retired as now a bit blind but still hates ducks and swans so a bit of a liability. The other loves it and patrols around the board. Only a jack russell so not an issue balance wise.

Just put in an order for an RRD Airrace V4

Hell of a deal on old stock. Effectively half price. https://www.h2o-sports.co.uk/produc...MIjPuf6cnd6AIVUEHTCh3PugO2EAkYASABEgIut_D_BwE Will let my son keep up with me better as he is on a 10ft 4 recreational board and I'm on a 14 footer and I hope it will also be fun for me for hols (whenever they may be) since my main board is rigid. Might be a tad tricky as a 12 ft 6 26 incher.

I'm managing to paddle every day at the mo which is an upside of all this.

I'd never heard of RRD before but seems H20 have quite a range of them, some being pretty high end.

I'm still 99% sure i'll be picking up a 12'6/14 in the next few months. Speaking to the guy from Sup Inflatables and he really recommends the Gladiator Elite range and they seem to be getting great reviews, especially for the price. But then also considering the Red Sport, a few places selling the 2019 boards for a reasonable discount.

I definitely want to go narrower as well as longer. Hoping once the lockdown lifts there'll be some group meets where i can try out some 28" boards to see if i'm comfortable going that narrow rather than 30".

I've also been eyeing up the Red Compact 11, seems a great board, if a bit pricey. Would be great for holidays, but hopefully a few more brands target the travel market. I know Fanatic have one available and Starboard have one which seems to pack away pretty small although it's a very narrow race board.

my jp 14 footer is 27.5 inches and very stable. interested to see how the 26 inch rrd stacks up. Inflatable will be less stable inch per inch as well.

So many bargains around at the moment if you are in the market. I had a look at sup co and h20 today for a mate and 25-30% on lots of decent fanatic, jp, starboard etc.

Are you after a touring shape?

Yeah. Something I can take to the Lakes and do longish 5/6 hour sessions.

Part of me says go 14” and keep my 10”8 for other occasions and other parts of me say go 12”6 as a mid point.

Other option is something like the 13”2 Voyager, but obviously the Reds come with a bit of a brand premium in my eyes.

May as well go 14 if you can. Faster, no real reason not to. Starboard touring 14ft and 30 inch can be had for good price particularly if you go for the basic construction. Personally I would love a 14 foot allstar airline. When I got my gt I was weighing up isup vs rigid and would have gone for all-star of going isup.

Red do seem to have a lot of people sold. I've ridden one of a similar size to my fly Air premium and it was fine but the fanatic definitely better finished and more complete package. I would feel much more sold on fanatic, jp, starboard, naish, SIC, etc than red at similar prices.

Was looking at the airline yesterday, but think it would be a bit too narrow for me. Feel like i'd want the more premium touring board too which again takes me to around £1200 and not sure how easy i can justify the cost.

There's a lovely JP one available too, think it's the Sports Air. Such a huge amount of choice and difficult to know which is best. There's an O'Shea GTR too which comes in at 12'6 x 29 which would be a bit of a decent compromise between 28" and 30", but they always seem fairly old style constructions and glued compared to some of the new technologies around now with other brands.

Been looking at ways to improve balance and give myself something to do and spotted a video on making a homemade balance board. These things are about £150 to buy which seems ridiculous for some plywood and a bit of round wood!

Got to this point last night, although wish i'd stopped a bit earlier as rushed a bit of the inlay and i've cut the groove a little too wide.

Cool, nice project. I have a balance board from my mountainboarding days (god I loved that sport but it used to leave me battered).

Yeah there is a wealth of choice for sure.

Having gone from a 32 inch to 27.5 inch without trying anything in between (at the time) I was pleasantly surprised by how much stability there was.

Have you looked at SIC at all? I was very close to buying the okeanos rigid but decided to go narrrower but that was very tempting. They now do inflatable 14 footer is 30 inch though so may be too stable. They do the RS inflatable though in a 28 incher that looks very tempting to me (while a bit more of a race profile it still has tie downs). I would be tempted by that or a starboard airline for an inflatable.

Still waiting on the note to say the RRD is on the way. Really excited / nervous to see how 26 inch feels. The reviews of it on superboarder mag are excellent but we will see if I am just too much man for such a narrow board (in which case it becomes my son's)

Bargain.

Is it you that has a mckonk padde? I need to get a 3 piece whenever holidays are an option again and although I love my JP carbon pro 2 piece I don't want to spend that much on a travel paddle. Was thinking of getting the Mconk 3 piece which at £150 for that weight seems a deal.

No, i've got the Starboard Enduro Tiki Tech. Can be had for around £180 i think for the 2019 version. The 2018 slightly cheaper. Not sure of any differences.

The McConks do seem to get decent reviews though.

Not get anything half decent with your RRD board you could take? Or maybe give H20 a call given you've just bought a board and they might do you a deal?

Otherwise the paddle that comes with the Gladiator Elite boards looks good and their boards are a decent price. Maybe give Gary at Sup Inflatables a call and see if he'll sell one separately.
