Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen - MMO on Kickstarter

LOL - we never did call on other guilds to help only a few people if really needed.

I still remember the first time going into fear - I was maybe 52-53 - semi crap gear. We went in to get a epic piece for a couple guild members. We got them and also partly wiped. I was running around grabbing mobs - tanking them; killing. My guild leader was watching as I pretty much took control; held the mobs so people could get rez and out; I even told the guild leader to get out - I would be ok as I was slowly making my way towards the exit :D She was on her cleric; we'd picked up and rez one of our enchanters and headed to the exit.

She was like I was fully expecting you to die any minute; and your life get low then pop back up. She was like ok who is this half elf paladin that just won't die :D

We ended up getting married - divorced LOL and she's still one of my best friends. You are completely right it did build a sense of community

I think we only had to call on another guild once just as we had started as a guild back then and we weren't too hot when it cam to raiding together as a group. We improved a hell of a lot since then and ended up being a pretty damn successful guild when it came to raiding. It was such a long time ago that it is all a bit fuzzy but I do remember the other guild being really super helpful and spending a couple of hours helping us for free just out of the goodness of their hearts which I thought was so awesome of them.

That is a nice story about how you managed to meet your future wife :). Sorry to hear it didn't work out though. Hopefully we'll hear stories like that in Pantheon where people make lasting long term friendships and relationships.

There was a branch of the EU United Kingdoms in EQ2 too - I'm not sure how I got mixed up with them ( I played on Fennin Ro in EQ1 but I was on the GM team for VS). We had several world firsts as I recall - including Castle Mistmoore clears etc. I still miss EQ1 nothing will ever replace it but to be honest it was mostly a chat app with a crappy 3d game added on. It was all about the people and like many of you by the sounds of it I was lucky enough to meet some very special ones.

Yeah I know about the branch of UK in EQ2. It was started by the EQ1 branch when a few people left EQ1 to play EQ2 and then it grew on its own from there. I was a member of UK in EQ2 for a short period of time but I ended up quiting EQ2 and going back to EQ1.

We might have met then - I sort of bounced between EQ2 and Wow for a while - I gave up EQ1 pretty soon after the expansion following Plane of Time shipped (GOD??) I levelled my main to the new level cap and basically quit the next day - I had over a year /played on him but I finally burnt out.
I may even have played with the UK guys in Vanguard but that game's a dim memory - so much promise wasted on dull gameplay

I was the guild leader of the Vanguard UK guild. There was Legacy of Ykesha (spelling?), Lost Dungeons of Norrath and then Gates of Discord after Planes of Power. I quit EQ1 when they raised the level cap from 65 to 70 when Omens of War came out after Gates of Discord. I also played World of Warcraft but quit before the first expansion came out.

I've really been looking for a new MMO to call home ever since Vanguard died. I haven't found a good one yet and that isn't for lack of trying. I've tried quite a few. They all just feel like solo games to me. Chat is always totally dead and no one really chats about random stuff like they used to in the past.

LOL we must have quit at the same time - I only levelled to the cap because I got all the expansions free as I was a Guide - I actually carried on guiding for a while after I quite but it didn't feel right.

I'm playing on Aggramar in WoW again ATM it's not bad but mostly because I'm in a decent sized guild so there's always a bit of activity - the content is actually fun ATM and there's loads of it too.
If I hadn't seen the guild advert (on this forum actually) I'd have probably quit again but I'm enjoying it :) . I'll never play at the same level as I did in the old days but TBH I'm lucky that I still have a job and wife with the amount I played in the EQ1 days (especially as I played on a US server so my game time was basically 10 til 2 pm every night if not more).

It's come a long way and looking sweet.

Yeah the changes make a big difference. It is starting to look good now and this only the first art pass so I imagine it'll look a lot better when it is all finished. I don't normally care about graphics all that much but if you have good graphics it does make a difference to the game.

so glad i've never heard of this game until now. looks great. are we expecting a game for use to play any time soon?

According to the developers pre-alpha is scheduled "soon". God knows what that actually means.

They have said that they want a minimum of one years worth of testing so expect Pantheon to launch at the very earliest late 2018 but some time in the first half of 2019 is more likely. Of course you could always pledge on their site for pre-alpha / alpha and beta access depending on your budget.

One thing i remember about Vanguard was the world just felt so much better than EQ and WoW, it had hills, forrests, coastal areas, desert areas etc, the whole world design just felt so much better than EQ. I can remember my first raid on APW that was awesome just getting there felt like a monumental achievement lol.

My other good memories of Vanguard was doing some quest that lead me to the coast with ghost pirates etc, the scenery was something else, and running along the top of some cliff or mountain or something and seeing a tower below, then spotting rope bridges you could cross that would lead you to a path down etc, honestly nothing has come close to the level of world building that VSOH had imho.

Even the newbie isle was epic with the oriental themed stuff etc, its a shame the game was rushed out so early and so buggy, it killed any potential investment for the game. Ive heard theres some VSOH emu servers about? might have to go it a whirl just to go exploring the world a bit more :)

Loved Vanguard, but nothing has ever ever come close to the feel of EQ for me.

It could be that it fell at the right time in my life for me (or wrong time if you consider the amount of hours I ploughed into it!), but from Vanilla until Velious I was hooked.

It helped being a key part of a high guild tier on my server that was cracking content as it was released. By the time PoP came along real life got in the way and my game time dissolved, as did my ability to contribute effectively to my guild.

Pantheon is an opportunity to relive some of that experience. Realistically it will be 20 years after I first started EQ, so my playtime will be beyond limited....children tend to do that.....but as a casual I will still be looking forward to it.

Reading a few other post about the PoF brought back some memories, late nights in the PoH and late nights helping other guilds that had wiped in Fear due to the punishing mob aggro range.

My favourite dungeons were Old Sebilis or Karnors Castle without a doubt, but in respect of raiding, ToV was great as we were one of the first guilds to break that zone.

I'm really hoping this game will bring back the magic of EQ and Vanguard. The community in Pantheon certainly feels friendly and helpful so I have a good feeling about this game. I just need to wait for testing to start now. Alas it'll be under NDA so I won't be able to talk about it.

Would love to test this when it comes, but I just cant stomach pledging $100 to get into beta or $250 to get into alpha!

I was really impressed with the improvements they have made on the graphics, more importantly it was great to hear about the optimisations they were focusing on every step of the way - looks like Brad learned from his error with Vanguard where he left the optimization for the end, and of course an early release meant none was done.

EQ1 and Vanguard are my two favorite MMOs. EQ1 was great for its time and real good for the community it built. Vanguard was also an immense game - it tooke a few too many bad habits from WoW/EQ2 (quest hubs and icons, lack of downtime) but the world and the class designs more than made up for it. No MMO has matched the quality of class design that Vanguard had.

EQs best days were during Brad's time IMO.

He had a 'blip' during Vanguard when he left or just failed to turn up for work after regularly pushing a white powder up his nose (according to Sigil employees).

I also believe I read an article a year or so ago that he pushed a lot of the initial kickstarter campaign money for Pantheon into paying off personal debts that he had.

Regardless, if he has got his act together and Pantheon realizes just 50% of the magic of the first few years of EQ I am sold.

Would be suprised if Brad is upto his old shenanigans with Pantheon, im fairly certain he realises its his last attempt to get a good MMO out the door, his entire reputation, or what is left of it is at stake now. You only have to do a bit of googling to find out how much of a muppet he has been, but there are a lot of people willing to give him a second chance and he knows he has to get it right or he is done in the industry.

With that said it looks like Pantheon is shaping up to be extremely good, doesnt seem to be too much over promising either which is nice, expectations are being kept a fair bit in check imho, i think personally they will over deliver and suprise a lot of people.

The game definitely will not be everyones cup of tea, the majority of fast food mmorpg gamers wowaholics will not like the minimal handholding and forced into grouping world that they will be thrust in to, i expect to see a lot of salty tears on release of people crying they cant solo xx and demanding they can for their money etc, will be quite hilarious as anyone going into this expecting it to be akin to the current watered down tripe on offer is going to get a rude awakening lol.

I think its possible to make a game like EQ with current gen tech / gfx etc and still have the things that made the game its born from be within the game, grouping and community for a starters, having to learn how to play your class and role within a group / raid etc, rather than just youtubing the most recent FOTM build and facerolling the keyboard etc.

Has anything been said about PVP? from what i remember Brad and co were not too bothered by it, and never saw it as important in the games they designed, you can add some salty tears there also from the hardcore PVP crowd too.

I cant wait for it to be released, was tempted by Alpha but i think i will wait til Beta as it should be a lot more rounded by then, im actually tempted to not even play Beta and to save my first try for release, to capture the magic of running around somewhere Kelethin on the day EQ went live lol, ultimately falling to my death and not having a clue what i was supposed to be doing haha.

+1

The current gen of MMO'ers will spread saltiness indeed. I hope that the makers of Pantheon stick rigid and firm against the tide of people who will shout loudest about how it should be more like 'modern' MMOs.
