Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen - MMO on Kickstarter

+1

The current gen of MMO'ers will spread saltiness indeed. I hope that the makers of Pantheon stick rigid and firm against the tide of people who will shout loudest about how it should be more like 'modern' MMOs.

Think its been said by Brad and the team a few times they wont be bending to whiners, they flat out state in their FAQ the game is not for everyone, its for people who want to go back to the days of less handholding and more community in MMO's.

Of course there will be plenty of people who have played more recent MMORPGS who will see Pantheon, see its pretty graphics, not bother to read much if anything about it, go and buy a box copy and then proceed to whine its not the game they were led to believe it would be (although they had done zero research to find out exactly what to expect).

I like the art style they have chosen as well, definitely a leap forward from EQ, and vanguard, its bordering on ESO levels of prettiness imo. As long as the gameplay is there and the content is there, they will have a huge hit i think.

Damn i wanna replay Vanguard now lol :(

There will be a PvP server, but there will be little focus on balance - it will be generally accepted that class X against Y has no chance of winning.
I will have Alpha Access, but as the plan for the testing is to actually test rather than get early access I expect to spend that time just trying elements out and giving feedback - and more importantly ensure my voice can be heard to try stand against those that try to make the game into a casual solofest, reassuring developers that people do actually want something challenging

Yeah i very much doubt the games going to be a solo fest, maybe open world stuff you will prob be able to solo singles and stuff, they will prob add better xp multis to groups to deter soloing, and in dungeons make it so most if not all pulls are multi pulls making you need CC etc. Long live the holy trinity :) Tank Healer CC, then add in Puller + Dps :)

Has anything been said about PVP? from what i remember Brad and co were not too bothered by it, and never saw it as important in the games they designed, you can add some salty tears there also from the hardcore PVP crowd too.

I cant wait for it to be released, was tempted by Alpha but i think i will wait til Beta as it should be a lot more rounded by then, im actually tempted to not even play Beta and to save my first try for release, to capture the magic of running around somewhere Kelethin on the day EQ went live lol, ultimately falling to my death and not having a clue what i was supposed to be doing haha.

According to Visionary Realms there will be PvP servers but they will be balanced separately to the PvE servers. So any changes made to fix PvP won't effect the PvE servers which I think is a reasonable way to do things.

Everything that Visionary Realms have said leads me to believe that there will be a vocal portion of the community upon release wanting the game to be made easier and they have said they will stick to their original vision no matter what.

Good for them , thats what I like to hear. I hope they do stick with that attitude and dont succumb to any pressure, either internal or external.

I just hope the people who invest in Visionary Realms understand it is their vision that makes them popular. If the investors start thinking they can make more money by appealing to a wider audience that is when problems will occur. I think Visionary Realms are aware of this though and will be looking for the right type of investor.

I know this thread is a bit buried, but thought it worth noting that latest news from Twitchcon is that Pre-Alpha will be starting in time for the Holidays

Yep. Really looking forward to that. Hopefully it is sooner rather than later.

I'm guessing late November / early December. Just after the Thanksgiving holiday in the USA.

This does sound very promising and I am very interested I just don't know if it's worth me playing with my now sporadic gaming times. I'd never be able to put in anywhere near the hours I did into EQ, DAoC, etc.

i'm torn as to whether it's worth playing a shell of a game now and as it grows enjoy the little by little. or worth waiting for a full game and enjoying it in it's glory

I've been a backer of Pantheon since March 2016. The community is great but bear in mind that the testing phases in Pantheon are going to be about targeted testing. This is not an early way to play the game so if you are not interested in helping make the game better by providing feedback and bug reports then I would recommend waiting for a bit. Having said that I am really looking forward to getting into testing so that I can help make the game as good as possible through bug reports and feedback.

LOLs. Truly a new era in gaming.

Want to be a beta tester? That'll be £250, please.

Want to be a pre-alpha tester? Yours for the minimum pledge of £1000.

"Guys we've got the unfinished game here; would you like to play it for over a grand?"

I mean it's a genius thing to do if people are actually willing to pay for it. But seriously... an unfinished game.... for over a grand... yeah. NOPE.jpg.

5$ a month if you want to post on the forums :S

highest pack for the game is only 10k though

seems like it will have game time too so a subscription? and being so expensive right now I don't see it managing to build a large enough community to survive for long when you have mmos like black desert online or guild wars 2

As for the actual game, well for us old EQ players not being Guild Wars 2 or BDO, or any of the other modern MMOs, is a huge bonus ;)

I'm just not paying a grand for an early access game, no matter how good :p

Personally I don't disapprove on the med-high pledging plans as long as they are not including high end game changing items that would give an unfair advantage.

If it's a genuine reason i.e passionate players who want to be involved early doors supporting the developers that need the crowd funding then fair play.
CF has helped produce some good games - it's also gone pear shaped many of times.

However I think most people here would rather spend a grand on something else, certainly up for this on release though providing its not a grand ofc :)
