Path of Exile 2

Played for about 6 hours and I'm not the target audience for this game. For the life of me i'm struggling to see what the hype is about and i fell for it.

Visually average, controls clunky, gameplay slow, and the UI is atrocious. It just feels tedious to play. Can't see me bothering with it for a while.

I think they are trying to channel Diablo 2 too much here, including copying Diablo's awful UI

I'm much preferring it over PoE1 thats for sure, mostly because of the slower pace, PoE1 was always too speedy for me, used to make me feel like I was doing it "wrong" if I was taking my time, so I'm appreciating the slower pace of PoE2, plus its a nice tide-me-over until Titan Quest 2 releases in a few months time

After 10~ years of Path of Exile 1, it's hard to rewrite my brain and I'm trying to play PoE2 like PoE1 :)

Lots of things they need to work on, but there's lots of improvement in there also from PoE1 which is great.

I am really enjoying it. There are a few places where it needs work but it has met my high expectations of it. Balancing etc will come and the acts will become easier as we learn them and are able to get to the actual meat of the game that is the Atlas tree (some would argue the start).

I'm still suffering PC lockups on loading screens, neither the vulkan change or turning off multithreading helped. The good news is that there are two massive threads gaining traction in the bug forum on the POE website, so hopefully GGG see it soon and fix.

Went blind with a Witch, currently lvl 20 on Act 2, centered around fire/ignite/srs minions.

My preferences are similar, but PoE2 has taken it to the extreme ... it feels waaaay too slow, tedious and unrewarding. Every monster, even trash mobs, have bloated health pools and take an age to kill ( especially with martial classes ). In boss fights there is an over-reliance on using the dodge roll ; it's not difficult, just so one dimensional and boring. I can't see Grinding Gear Games growing their audience if they continue on this trajectory. The "hype train" for this game is about to derail in spectacular fashion.

Here's hoping TQ2 is as good as the original - neither D4 or PoE2 are filling that niche for me right now.

Put another 4 hours into the Ranger today and once into the Cemetery area I started to feel a lot squishier and I died a lot more, especially with the bosses in the Cemetery. Sometimes things just feel too narrow for an evasive ranged class.

Found the one enemy I hate - Eternal Knights and their big reflective shields.

Tried controller, instead of WASD and for me it felt unnatural, but I usually find that with controller anyway.
Seems it's going to take a while to clear an area and the one thing that always baffles me is when the maps change. I know it's to keep things fresh using procedural generation, we us it in our game, but when the entry/exit points move I have to search around for them again. :D

Enjoying it though.

Yes, the difficulty and quantity of enemies ramps up from that point onwards. Ranged classes suddenly become melee ... unintentionally ! Character mobility really needs to be a lot higher than it currently is.

I cannot say I am having a flawless gaming experience here. Far too much is wrong with it from a core design perspective. The performance is fine and no bugs, it's just the GGG team have basically given us Ruthless mode for POE2. And there were very few fans of this in POE1.

Some boss fights are great. Getting to each boss fight is an absolute chore. Maps are too big, movement speed is too slow. Mobs are too hp heavy - in fact every mob and boss in the game needs 30-40% hp reduction.
The loot is absolutely atrocious, as per Ruthless mode. Currency does not drop enough, even bases dont drop enough - I'm now dealing garbage dmg for my level and nothing is dropping that I can even throw transmutes at. Gold, and the occasional item. Bosses drops are worthless as well.

Both of these things seem bonkers to me. On the one hand those knights are ridiculous. There's nothing like them in a2 so far. This is how you lose players early.

The map orientation is common thing from POE1 where you are not guaranteed the same layout so have to put in some effort to finding the objective each time. However, this is a first where you need to find the NPC in the map, then go to submaps, and when you come out the map has flipped orientation and you then need to find him again.... and clear the map as you go. I hope this is an oversight. If not it's very cynical.

Yeah I’ve played PoE1 and the map rotation baffled me in that game too

It’s early access so I’m not worried as that’s what it’s there for in terms of tweaks and changes. It’s invaluable feedback for the dev team.
We had two years of it and even though it was on a much smaller scale than PoE2, it still helps you immensely.

I want to give GGG the benefit of the doubt, but considering this game can borrow from POE's experience, there may be too much to ignore. My overall experience is of an indie free to play game that still needs a lot of work, the developer says 6 months, I say it needs 2 years of work to fix the issues, but the problem is I don't think the issues I have with it will be fixed, because from what I understand many of these issues are in POe1 as well

I think I'll refund it and come back in a year or two. I just hope by then they haven't added so many systems that the game is unplayable for new players like POE1 is today

Who is going to want to run the current campaign every 4 months on multiple characters, it just feels so tedious, it actually makes me miss POE1 8 hour campaign which I thought was already tedious lol

GGG have put this in their important known issues post - so they're now aware. Fingers crossed :D

Yes in many boss fights it's roll roll roll get your 2 hits in roll roll roll get your 2 hits in repeat. Like you said it's not hard but tedious doing that for 5 mins plus. Reminds me of Dragon Age Veilguard.

I had to put veil guard on the easiest difficulty and it was still too tedious. Many developers are trying to copy dark souls but have no clue what they are doing

Mixed thoughts so far, it definitely a very different ARPG from POE 1. Agree with what others have said about boss fights, I like that they are heavily mechanic based, and I think the majority of mechanics seem fair/balanced well telegraphed so you can learn the fights, but balance seems a little all over the place currently. Just banging my head against the brick wall that is Act 1 end boss as a warrior, it's second phase has so much health... Also I think the reward balance is a little off, I do like the fact that you get less gear etc overall, I feel sometimes ARPGs overwhelm you with gear, but I do think this goes to far the other way. Also currency drops need to be increased, you should be able to craft more earlier on I think, particularly to align with the overall difficulty of the game.
